Sorry but his full comments were just insulting, he explicitly is pledging to keep using tariffs as “industrial policy“, which is also how Trump justified them half the time!

I didn't say she called for it, I said she condoned it. I don't think the full context for her remarks is much better:

Okay not as dramatic as I remembered but still a very sharp swing. I get the impression Heath being seen as an Arabist and Wilson being close to Golda Meir was a big factor in this seat

5 of the last 6 MPs for Toronto Centre were cabinet ministers, and the one who wasn’t was the former Premier of Ontario who ran for leader and served as acting leader afterwards

The most polite way to describe OP’s response to this fact is “beyond parody”.

This is basically right, there is a story where a steam engine describes fleeing across England at night, hiding from diesels in tunnels and sidings, which ends with him getting smuggled across the border bsky.app/profile/gold...

The real-life phase-out of steam traction on Britain’s railways is written as a sort of ethnic cleansing where Sodor and the real-life heritage railways are the only safe havens. Below is a real illustration from one of the books

Also if you were flying in the 1960s it probably would have been in economy class on something like this, which was genuinely state of the art at the time.

I’d also push back on the idea that it was more luxurious for the lucky few in first class fifty-sixty years ago. This is what the first class cabin looked like on a Pan Am 747 in 1970. Nowadays on most long haul flights first class buys you a bed!

11. I like loads! Mostly about politics and history, but lots of stuff about urbanism and architecture etc too. This is the non-fiction section of my bookshelf right now, and most of the books about cities and architecture are off to the side.

And to make an international comparison, what ended Justin Trudeau’s premiership was not two years of him leading his party towards the side of a cliff, but his up to this point extremely loyal Finance Minister announcing to the world that he was leading the whole country off the side of a cliff

In the 2017-19 period I would have a lot of fun playing a magic trick on various Canadian politician discussion forums, where I would simply post this screenshot of Andrew Scheer being interviewed by white supremacist Faith Goldy and then all the thread‘s Tories would disappear.

For instance in this excerpt from Bullshit Jobs it is clear what the purpose of Nathaniel’s job is - it’s to make sure applications aren’t rejected due to trivial errors, if these errors are corrected before the forms are sent in that saves the organization and the applicants huge amounts of time
