On 13 July 2026 the Royal Navy finally confirmed the retirement of two of its remaining seven Type 23 frigates, taking the fleet to just five ships (one of them in refit). The frigate force will eventually rebuild to eight Type 26 and five Type 31 frigates. warsight.com/2026/07/17/u...

Right now, Belgium's ground-based air defence comprises just a handful of Piorun MANPADS. As such, the NASAMS and Skyranger 30 purchase does not so much represent Belgium modernising its GBAD capabilities as it does acquiring them to begin with.
