My mom and aunt used to take me on shopping trips to Vancouver when I was a child, and they would always stock up on Coffee Crisps (and the good Kit Kats, Smarties, and Aeros). It's been years since I had one, you have inspired me to seek them out once again.

Honorable mentions include, but are not limited to: Any sketch where Dave Foley is doing Isabella Rosellini in "Blue Velvet" drag; the Hudson Bay trappers; Apocalypse DJ; Tammy (especially "Roses," which I have convinced myself references the band Book of Love; and Buddy Cole (almost any).

A few years ago, a friend was approached by two Mormon missionaries in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Seattle (?!), and she felt bad for them because they were totally barking up the wrong tree. I choose to believe that the experience opened their eyes to different possibilities.

Anyway. It's fitting that I am back home in the PNW on this anniversary of "Nevermind," at a time when I find myself thinking more and more about the past and the passage of time and grief in its many forms, and what a gift it is to age. Thanks for writing this, @nikostratis.com

much of a hold Nirvana still has on Seattle culture, and it took a lot of restraint to not get on my soapbox about the music and why it still has a hold all over the world. There is a lot more that I could say, and maybe I will write about it one day, if only for myself.

I was a little too young (5) to remember "Nevermind" when it first came out, and I do not remember exactly when I first heard Nirvana, but it has obviously been a major part of my life for longer than not, like part of the fabric of me. A few years ago, someone in NOLA made a crack about how 1/2

Final thing: It was super sweet seeing so many young people lose their minds at seeing Bikini Kill, The Breeders, and Garbage for the first time and taking in everything Kathleen, Kim, and Shirley had to say with rapt attention. They've been dealt a lousy hand, but a lot of these kids are alright.

And, sure, maybe the messages didn't reach everyone. But they reached a lot of people, and across a wide age range, and that is not nothing. And it was also just nice being at a festival that felt safe and, though they were welcome, was not designed for cis men.

I was there and can confirm that it was actually a really lovely and, dare I say, hopeful day. Like you, I am also cynical about modern pop, but, amidst all the poppy sheen, so much care was really put into uplifting the orgs that were benefited, along with other social and political issues.

Vote in every local election. And once you start learning about how important your county coroner is in determining if someone died from an illness or if a death was a criminal act, you’ll have a whole new thing to get mad about.

In 40 years on this planet, in literally every instance where I have witnessed someone being harassed (or have been harassed myself), not once have I experienced a cis man standing up to help with the situation. Other women and queer people, yes, almost always. But never cis men.

The reason why people think Dolly was “politically neutral” is because they don’t understand being political as a series of actions born of commitment to an idea. Being political as defined by the pundit class is to be in front of a microphone delivering sound bytes, it’s something to be devoured
