It is not only about the stories that get told, but how they are told. In Paramount's upcoming "Karl," we are likely only to be shown a reputation-washing overview of the designer's rise as an "icon" and nothing about his true character or the fascist aesthetics he perpetuated. bit.ly/3VMc3q5

After 9/11, pollution in the air was evident and safety was not prioritized over the economy. Many have suffered. Pollution is a cause of casualty whether from war, environmental disaster, or corporate negligence. Pollution feels invisible but its impacts are real. What they knew: bit.ly/3VJP1QF
A photograph of a view from between two skyscrapers over the trees of Zuccotti Park towards the World Trade Center one week after 9/11. Two flagpoles with American flags lowered to half-staff are seen at the center of the image with the remaining standing structure of the South Tower slightly visible behind them. A yellow crane is positioned at the Ground Zero site. The sky looks grey and creates a fog in front of Two World Financial Center (225 Liberty); the building with the domed top in the background. As the photo was taken with a disposable film camera, the date of capture is displayed on the lower right-hand-side of the image in red numbers: 9 18 '01.

The same corner at Nassau and Cedar streets over 25 years later. #documentary #photography World Trade Center, New York. September 21, 2026.
A photograph from the corner of Nassau and Cedar streets looking down towards the World Trade Center Memorial site 25 years after 9/11. The area is more bustling with people, the sky in the background is blue, and the American flag is fully raised in the center of the image behind the "Joie de Vivre" steel beam art piece by Mark di Suvero and in front of Zuccotti Park trees. The 140 Broadway entrance on the right-hand-side is slightly modernized and there is still a tree in a planter out front.

A photo taken as a high school student with a disposable film camera one week after 9/11. The remaining structure of the South Tower still stands in the background. Consequences, we now know, are forthcoming for those pictured returning to work. World Trade Center, New York. September 18, 2001.
A photograph from behind bike rack barricades on the corner of Nassau and Cedar streets looking down towards the World Trade Center seven days after 9/11. In the left-center of the image, an American flag is lowered to half-staff. In the right-center, the remaining structure of the South Tower can be seen still standing. The sky is grey and two women can be seen dressed for work walking towards the entrance of 140 Broadway. A man, potentially a maintenance worker, is seen standing in front of a tree nearby a yellow garbage receptacle on the lower left-hand-side of the image without any a mask or any PPE.

The World Trade Center Memorial today as viewed from the same vantage point of the first image of the thread. #photography #architecture Winter Garden, New York. September 21, 2026.
A photograph taken from inside the Winter Garden atrium building looking out at the World Trade Center Memorial site. Glass panes are in view with the words "Brookfield Place" affixed to the outside. Green trees obscure the West Side Highway but a few cars can be seen moving past, along with a city bus and commercial truck in foreground. The white wings of the Oculus bird-shaped transit hub can be seen in the background along with the blast-proof base of the new One World Trade Center (Freedom Tower) on the left-hand-side of the image.

In December 2002, an exhibit that lasted for several weeks presented models of potential plans for the World Trade Center site that were submitted by architecture firms to the Lower Manhattan Development Corporation. #photography #architecture Winter Garden, New York. January 9, 2003.
A photograph of an architectural model submitted by the firm THINK. The memorial element features two transparent lattice structures in the exact shape of the twin towers inspired by the Eiffel Tower. This plan was the runner up to the winning design by Studio Daniel Libeskind. This was another submission by the THINK architecture firm. The model shows two glass-enclosed cylinders as the memorial and a weird cone-shaped tower as a commercial building and concert hall. According to New York Magazine, this design would have collected rainwater (much needed in NYC), and produced solar energy.

A place awaiting a plan. #photography #architecture Future World Trade Center Memorial, New York. February 01, 2003.
A photograph of the cleared but empty World Trade Center site, with a few pieces of construction equipment in view, including a crane. A few cars are passing by on the big highway in front. The red sign of the Century 21 department store can be seen in the far background on the right-hand-side of the image. The viewpoint of the site is from slightly above as it was taken from the second floor of the glass Winter Garden building across the street.

The view down West Street across from the World Trade Center Memorial site. Yes, the lanes have been widened over two decades — but maybe a little evidence of congestion pricing working, huh? #architecture #photography Left: September 21, 2026. Right: February 01, 2003.
A photograph of a few cars, including yellow taxi cabs, waiting at a traffic light on a wide highway with green trees on either side. A pedestrian bridge walkway hovers over the street and a mix of old and modern skyscrapers stand in the background, including one that is still being built.A film photograph of a wide avenue with car lanes going in both directions. Cars in shapes of older models are paused close together as they wait for traffic to move. Several buildings in the background that require repair or construction are covered with a black protective fabric, likely to keep anything from falling on pedestrians. There are no trees in view but the same pedestrian bridge crosses over the span of the road leading into a construction site at the World Trade Center. A giant billboard of an American flag shaped in a heart with the Statue of Liberty pictured in front reads, "The human spirit is not measured by the size of the act, but by the size of the heart." The billboard was placed there after 9/11.

Then and now for the 25th Anniversary. #sculpture "The Sphere" was commissioned by the Port Authority and stood in the plaza between the Twin Towers from 1972. It was created by German artist Fritz Koenig as a symbol of world peace. It was recovered from the rubble after 9/11 and remains on view.
A film photograph of a bonze spherical sculpture at a temporary memorial site in Battery Park with buildings from Lower Manhattan in the background along with bare winter trees. An eternal flame flickers in front of the sculpture surrounded by stones on the ground. The sculpture remained at this site from 2002-2017. This photograph was taken on February 1, 2003.The bronze Sphere sculpture at its permanent home in the elevated Liberty Park, which overlooks the World Trade Center Memorial site in New York City. The sun is slightly reflecting off the damaged bronze plates of the sphere and it is surrounded by green trees. A small group of people are standing in front of it with their backs to the camera reading its sign and talking about the sculpture. This photograph was taken on September 21, 2026.
