But I like the world because it is real, and AI is not real. (The "Artificial" bit should be a fairly good indicator of this.) I see no compelling argument.

Baby's foot also does a weird disappearing tuck. Goss this is so disappointing to see real wildlife footage be cluttered with fake shit. It takes away all honesty.

With the first of the stereoviews above, it felt like quite a thing to be 'stared at' by a little girl who would have been born approximately 150 years ago! I think this collection might have been purchased by my late Grandma's parents, judging by the date on them. #stereoviews #stereophotography

Kj Wright @maybecabers.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Received a package in the mail from my uncle today. :) My late Grandma had thought this collection of stereoviews had gone, but my Uncle must have tracked them down in a cupboard, while clearing out the Farmhouse! Here are just three from the many, all from the Kilburn Bros, pre 1900's.
A sepia photograph of a girl and her dog, in stereoview. By B W Kilburn, in 1882 Dog appears to be a spaniel. Girl appears to be boring her gaze into the viewer, and if she were still alive today, would be close to 150 years old. Which is quite a thing.A sepia photograph of a girl and her cat, in stereoview. By B W Kilburn, possibly around 1875. The cat is bundled up in a muff. (Possibly to keep it still for the duration of the picture!)A sepia photograph of a girl and her dog, in stereoview. Caption: "Why won't you talk, Jack?" By B W Kilburn, in 1882. Jack is a dog, this is probably why Jack doesn't talk. But he seems quite content in his chair, in a spaniel sort of way.In a photograph whose tones scream "I was printed sometime in the 70s!", there stands a random small child in a blue apron dress. It may be corduroy. Grinning in the manner of a number 8 followed by a capital D, with what is best described as a pudding bowl haircut. It probably was. She is wearing glasses, and may be about 3 years old.
Next to her is an even younger child, sporting a red blouse with polkadots, and red shorts. This child is (and will always be!) more photogenic than her sibling. Some day, socks and sandals will also make a comeback but today is not that day.

I wish they would take the Intelligence bit out. It's just "Artificial" - as in: unnatural, lacking in natural or spontaneous quality Synonyms: strained, false, unnatural, mechanical (digital?), simulated, pseudo, exaggerated, plastic, feigned, contrived, phony, fake. There is no intelligence.

Pretty sad to wake up to this today. Only just last night, I had enjoyed my favourite stars. They couldn't even leave me the sky.
View of a third floor under construction, from next door. Half of the sky is now occupied. The roof hasn't even been added yet.

My hope is that whoever lives there (eventually) respects darkness in the evening and doesn't have a 24 hour security light or some bollocks like that. If I lose the night sky view to close-light pollution I will be even sadder.

Aye. The building is supposed to be three storeys high. This is from the only part in my flat that has a view, so yeh. A bit sad. I am hoping that maybe.. just maybe.. the third storey is part sloping roof, so that I still get a glimpse of the big tree. I had the stereo camera out this morning.

The view today. Sadgeness. Even when the previous house was on the site, I could still see the trees and One Tree Hill from my window.
Construction scaffolding frames a view of trees and hills that will soon be hidden from the photographer's view.

- and this was despite the fact that my animation skills were the thing that got me a job in the studio in the first place. 30 years ago. So yeh! (I really REALLY wanted to be a traditional animator, for animals and creatures and stuff. ;) )

Kj Wright @maybecabers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Hell, even in the traditional drawn days - we were usually pigeonholed as cleanup/paint artists, and I remember a surprised "that's good", from one employer after I had asked for a small animation sequence to do "on my own time."

Kj Wright @maybecabers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
This was prompted (through no fault of it's own, it is but one of many) by watching the end credits of The Sheep Detectives. I love animal animation. It made me sad to see so very very few women in the animation dept. in general. Why is this? It's not like we can't.

Kj Wright @maybecabers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
Heh, as one, I'll say "maybe" although TV credits are even rarer to actually see. I give a little cheer internally whenever I see a woman's name among the lead animators - and in all those years (if I count my fingers-) I might - just barely - be on my second hand. I wonder about this, every time.
000
Kj Wright @maybecabers.bsky.social · 02/09/2026
How many women have been lead animators in movies? Just asking, for a "me, who has been watching credits for over 30 years." I guesstimate that somewhere around 3% is an overly generous number, and that the reality is more like 1%. (Just having a little bit of salt in my day, today!)

They have started the base work for the second floor of the development going up next door. I shall miss the view of my pink trees 🩷, my wide-boi tree 💚, and None-tree hill. A view that I have been lucky to have from my li'l flat, for nigh on 26 years.
A nighttime photograph looking at the silhouette of a large tree, with lit trees covered in pink blossoms nearby. In the distance, an Auckland monument formerly known as One Tree Hill. To the left, a building frame that marks the height of a development set to hide almost all of the view on its completion, because the development goes nearly to the front of the neighbouring property.

Ayep. I keep feeling as if she didn't die so much as she just stepped on up off the planet like the light she was! Weird, I know. It has been cheering to read all the positive reminiscing. Long may her light endure.

It's kinda strange that (for me) it doesn't feel like she's gone, so much as she simply stepped lightly off the planet. She was that kind of good light, ya know? Far reaching and delightfully impactful. Hope she's dancing with Carl out there somewhere. 💖

Sometimes I think the 75+ year old Kinsey report was entirely forgotten about by folk! Which should make the HRC report far less surprising. (It is hopefully more diverse in its sample field though, which is good. :) ) resource.rockarch.org/story/fundin.... (2020 article)

Or a "threat to life on the planet", if we fancy getting a little more salty on their contribution to environmental pollution and global warming. Consider this report in early 2025, and the heatwave records of 2026. Maaaaybe 'just an anomaly' this year? But if not... climate.mit.edu/ask-mit/ais-...

What I hate is the big spike that tracks with the lockdown time when "maybe" food was being a bit harder to distribute and wrangle. Prices going up from an inflated point that never came down... I wonder what their excuse was.

(Generally there is "a skeleton" that VFX houses use and re-use. Usually (but not always!), there is a male skeleton, and a female skeleton available. But the skulls themselves have defining characteristics of things like cheekbone and jaw. It really was an enjoyable conversation! :D)

I work in Visual Effects. Had a great conversation with a Forensic Anthropologist once, whose pet peeve was seeing digital skeleton 'scans' in Initialled Crime Dramas and being able to determine that they don't match the subject because of the physical characteristics of the skeleton depicted.
