Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 12/10/2026When I lived alone up north in a small city for a couple years for work, I took a bus to Costco once a month or so and stocked up. Now I'm back in Vancouver and there's a Costco downtown within walking distance. A completely practical option for an urban apartment household without a car. 020

Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Did you know, people sometimes behave unexpectedly even in places you don't expect them. 120
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 11/10/2026You don't control the behavior of others! If a kid runs out between two cars and you hit them going 40 in a 35 zone it might not be your fault you hit them but they'll still be at significantly higher risk of harm. 130
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 11/10/2026Because you were speeding, you posed a greater danger to others even in these incidents that, for the sake of argument, were not your fault. Even if you're as good a driver as you think you are, you are increasing the risk of serious harm or death for everyone around you when you speed. 130
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 09/10/2026He's charismatic in a way that is completely alien to Sim. I bet he doesn't even have a gym in his office and he never talks about swagger. It's unnatural. I have my differences with Orr but he's a real guy who's doing his best and I think that both frightens and enrages Sim. 000
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Okay but a month ago you had a majority government and could have just done this. And then in 2028 you could have run on actually having done a great thing, rather than a perpetual promise to do a great thing some time in the future. 000

Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 05/10/2026190 and 265 are the current top tax brackets so they just put a new one on top; definitely a good idea though I agree with you that it could be lower and still capture folks wealthy beyond an "ordinary" comfortable professional income. 020
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Totally. It's not an income level where expenses are meaningless and money is just a number (that only goes up). And I certainly also agree with the Greens that focusing on income only risks missing how wealth actually accumulates. 010
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Okay but to be clear (as someone who will be affected by this), the difference is very little for people who are only slightly over $190k. 2% above what we'd be paying anyway on the amounts over 190k only. That's still only about $1500 for someone who makes $265k. We'll be fine. 130
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 05/10/2026This was the first and last X-files episode I watched for many years, after I saw it at a friend's house as a kid. It left a mark. I was very surprised to learn that the show was not for the most part especially horrifying. 000

Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 30/09/2026I think the Tyrant Philosophers are my favourites of his? The setting feels very real and alive, but also tantalizingly vast and strange. And I loved Service Model, his butler robot road novel. Central female character also probably not a mustelid though, so reader beware. 000
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026Leaving aside that you'd have had a lot more breathing room if you'd worked with the Greens, a party that rhetorically the BC NDP shares many goals with. Dropping this into the middle of the municipal elections was far from the only option. 001
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026This might be landing better with folks if you'd opened with this argument, which has the advantage of being truthful, rather than the Trump word salad Eby delivered when he dropped the writ. Also maybe if you'd left space for the municipal elections, and if it didn't seem like it was backfiring. 100
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026I was at a beloved event last night that is spiritually if not literally a mask-mandatory lesbian bar in western MA and folks were a little on edge knowing that we were the subject of intense hostile national news scrutiny. 040
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 26/09/2026This would be nice because it would suggest trying to do something about the problem helps, in observable ways, which seems trite but there's so much reason for cynicism right now. 010
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 24/09/2026This seems trite but one of the nice things about the Wachowskis is that they have movies about things they like, and expressing ideas they have experienced and thought about, and this is not actually universal or even common in blockbusters. 021
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Jupiter Ascending should have been as influential as the Matrix aesthetically. It showed what science fiction in a big budget production can be in the modern day--bold and vibrant and wildly creative. Instead as a society we settled on Worse Star Wars, iterated again and again forever. 010
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 24/09/2026So the NDP were competitive in your riding and almost won. Who knows what would have happened if they hadn't run anyone, but they should definitely run someone in your riding next election too. The left isn't obligated to hold back viable candidates in order to maximise centrists' odds of winning. 110
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 23/09/2026There aren't that many 3-way split ridings and the assumption that Green voters are all defecting from the NDP is probably also incorrect. Many otherwise wouldn't vote at all, and I bet you'd be surprised how many Green/Con voters there are. Also it's okay to want things to be better than they are. 211
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Despite never having been to Western MA I feel acutely like I have lived this story and know everyone involved. Don't love the tone of the article even though clearly some of the folks involved desperately need to touch grass. 060
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 23/09/2026There are lots of people who still mask in public indoors, you just don't see them because they don't get out much. Bars/event spaces can do stuff like having fully masked areas (i.e. the dance floor), and then areas where folks take their masks off to drink. It's honestly normal and fine, in 2026 090

Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Agreed. Again not my area, but I think Wirring which is currently before the SCC and TWU from a few years back would both support intervention by the law society to protect students, especially if universities won't. www.canlii.org/en/ab/abca/d... decisions.scc-csc.ca/scc-csc/scc-...canlii.org 000
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Me too! And I kinda enjoyed it, in part since I didn't even know if I actually wanted to go to law school yet. But I knew that I needed to ace the LSAT if I wanted to have a shot, my undergrad marks were mid. So my study period was very intense and throwing a wrench into it could've been fatal. 010
Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 14/09/2026If a consequence of this is Canadian law schools delinking from the LSAT to any degree, that would be a positive. Ruin @maybeanotherday.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Sounds like students in BC are successfully getting the decision reversed on an individual basis but obviously many won't know to and the difficulty and stress of dealing with that even if you get your date back have got to be disruptive.
