Yesterday was 20 years in #SecondLife for me, a pretty big milestone. To celebrate, I decided to finally update max to full mesh. This is my 1st try, did my own shape. I need to do more aging on him, but its a clean start. Clooney-ish, but a Kaycee Dutton vibe I was not expecting from the hair. 😕

Jim Bakker passed, reminding me of the strange goings on in them parts of the NC/SC border in the 1980s, a wild frontier to be raised in, if there ever was one. Drugs. Rape. Religious fraud. Theme park money. Lots of gossip. This was my very brief, singular encounter with him.

During the mid 1980's I worked for a moment as an environment artist on what became Heritage Island water park. I sculpted concrete gunnite shot out of a high pressure hose. I could get paid for my art, they said, a rare opportunity.

Money is weird. Theme park money is really weird. Religious theme park money, however, is some next level shit, and the Bakkers/PTL/Heritage USA wrote the book on how that works.

I was carving a set of stairs as part of the switchback trails which ran up the "mountain" of the park to each of the areas. It was late summer and just brutal open sun, workin the cement mixture into the wire and matrix of supports to match the plans. You had to go really fast because it dried so quickly in the sun and with the added fibers. Its just kindof brutal but it was interesting work. So during this, suddenly the horn blows, we stop work, here comes the limousines and entourage, Rev. Jim is come to review his battlefield, his troops. The flash, pomp and bullshit is legendary.

He proceeds to sortof shake a couple hands down there in the empty parking lot, it's all closed job site, lots of security. But then he sortof goes off script a bit, I think, and wants to go up and see the slide. At the top, the big one Rev. Falwell would later go down. So we are watching this moron, in full 3 piece suit and dress shoes, clamber his way over hoses and ropes and around generators and electrical cords, no hardhat, followed by a bustle of contractors and foremen freaking the hell out, sweating bullets and cursing their lot.

So I am standing there, watching this next to one of those igloo water coolers with the paper cups, just had one, filling up another one, when he gets to my area. He is sweating bullets by this time, clearly having not planned for this. As he approaches me, I stand up from the cooler, and extend the cup of water to him, saying, "Rev. Bakker would you like some icewater?" He draws back, looks me UP and DOWN and says, "Why I wouldn't take water from you." At this point, I flicked the full paper cup of water directly into his face and said "Fucker!" I'm not sure who was shocked more by this transaction, Him, myself or his security detail, which promptly escorted me from the property. Best summer job ever.

Fiona is very blinded by the sun hitting her cataracts as she has lost her vision, they diffuse the light, amplifying it and causing her to spasm horribly. We got these and she was instantly better and likes them. They worked!

A year ago, I had been told that I had an aggressive stage 2 bladder cancer, and was about 3 weeks from having surgery to remove the bladder (and a few other things). I can't believe it's been a year already, and all my followup tests have been negative. I can't wait to hit the one-year mark.

U.S. 2027 Data Center Law: The data industry must produce as much energy and water as it consumes to operate. It must be renewably generated. No: grid, aquifer access, emissions. Ai must produce, not consume, things we need. It's here, it must be controlled. Make it solve problems, not become one.

Each of the 27,360 #SecondLife regions is exactly 256m², or 65,536²m each. The main grid covers a massive amount of virtual territory:
Square Meters: 1,793,064,960 m²
Square Kilometers: 1,793.06 km²
Square Miles: 692.31 square miles

To put that into real-world perspective, the total land area of the Second Life main grid is roughly three times the size of the islands of Singapore, Oahu, or slightly larger than the city of London, UK.

22,200 of those regions are estimated to contain primarily user-created content. This constitutes roughly 80% to 81% of the entire main grid mass. Made by us, not damn machines.

Thats roughly 554 square miles of stuff we created. We should go look at it more. Nomads helps you do that.

Found my first scene render from when I was learning TrueSpace to do 3D product design back in 2003. The second pic is the first successful mesh upload I did during the mesh beta in #SecondLife, June ‎23, ‎2011, ‏‎4:08am. Good times.

My first 3D scene render from 2003 using TrueSpace 6, this image shows the corner of a room with a wood floor and a textured brown wall meeting a white wall. On the floor sit 4 perfect spheres, one each of chrome, silver, gold and brown leather. The rendering is done to illustrate the materials and lighting through reflections and shadows.

While only learning of it recently, it's quite good and not at all unusual. Flavor & texture wise, similar to having a good fried chicken biscuit. I don't use maple syrup with it, as some do; I tried that and it was ok but not something I'd make again. I prefer savory with some white or brown gravy.
