Halloween movie #11 "Sleepy Hollow" 1 of the few Tim Burton movies I like, mostly because it is an homage to the Hammer horror films I loved so much as a youth. My son requested this when I mentioned it the other day. He watched with me and greatly enjoyed it.

The "wraparound" story actually uses H.P. Lovecraft as the central character, played by Jeffrey Combs, most famous for playing the main character in "Reanimator" - itself a terrible HPL movie adaptation.

Halloween movie #10 "Necronomicon" (1993) Movies based on Lovecraft are awful. This 3 story anthology, each taking an idea or detail from an HPL story, then going off into something not related to the original, is bad. If you like your horror cheap, cheesy, & bad, this might be the movie for you.

Halloween movie #9 "Happy Death Day" Dark comedy/horror. 1st time watch for me. Pretty fun. A familiar premise - think "Groundhog Day" but with brutal murder. I get why they made the main character awful at the start, but it did make it a little tough to like this movie at the beginning.

Halloween movie #8 "Trick 'r' Treat" Watched this 1 last year, and enjoyed it so much I wanted to watch it again this year. Goofy, fun horror anthology. I popped popcorn & grabbed candy for this 1. That's just the kind of movie it is.

🎵 On the 7th day of Halloween, I watched: 🎵 "The Damned" I'm finding I like "Folk horror" quite a bit. Partly because it doesn't lend itself to jump scares or other junk I don't like in my horror. This one moves a long at a decent clip, & doesn't draw it out too long. Pretty good little movie.

Putting Amanda Seyfried in glasses & thinking that makes her whole "I'm such a dork"/unattractive thing believable was pretty ridiculous, though. Just...come on.

Halloween movie #6 "Jennifer's Body" Heard rave reviews. I thought the story was her getting possessed and killing guys who assaulted her or something. No, she's just a demon killing dudes, & Amanda Seyfried is the hero. I would have preferred the movie that was in my head. Still decent, though.

Halloween Movie #3 "What We Do in the Shadows" Vampires are my favorite "Halloween staple", if you will. I've loved 'em since I saw Bela Lugosi as Dracula when I was a kid. So this incredibly funny vampire comedy is a favorite. I loved the show even more, but the movie is still fantastic.

Yeah. I can't prove it, but I think my tendency to call out bullshit is part of why I'm unemployed now. Not in a meeting, but a survey. I guess Axon's "principle" of "Expect Candor" only applies to the grunts, not executives. And yeah, I'm calling them out publicly for abandoning their ethics.

I'm a big believer in Stephen King's "closed door principle" - that hinting at the horror behind the door is scarier than opening the door & showing it. This movie - & most 80s horror - is all "open door", & therefore not scary.

Halloween movie #4 "Poltergeist" Never watched this before, despite seeing the 2 sequels. It's not great. Effects look cheesy as hell now, but I think they did then. The whole thing is just a collection of junk *someone* apparently found scary. But a steak crawling across the counter ain't scary.

Halloween movie #3 "Below" I'm a sucker for a submarine movie. So a horror movie on a submarine? Yes, please. This 2002 movie was very of its time. A little too slick, lacking coherent plot, & w/ very modern dialog & attitude despite being set in WW2. Not a great movie, but I still enjoyed it.

I know plenty of women who love a big beard. "Women don't find [x] attractive" is one of the worst and least-accurate generalizations out there. I'd imagine the same is true if toy say it about men, but I don't pay any attention to what men do or don't find attractive.

Halloween movie #2: "Mother Mary" Not a horror movie, not spooky, but it has seances and shit, so counting it. This starts out very intense and tight. Act 1 & 2 are fantastic. The setup for act 3 promises more than is delivered. Act 3 feels like a bone with no meat on it. Still a decent movie.

The 1 caveat to the terrible acting is Liev Schrieber, who conveys somehow that his character is a gross creep, before he says a word. I was watching thinking, "Why does Liev seem rapey?" Then he starts being a creep, & I thought, "Oh, that's actually some good acting."

Halloween movie #1 "Phantoms" (1998) Mostly known from the line "Affleck, you the bomb in 'Phantoms', yo!" (Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back) Jebus this was terrible. Not scary, just a bunch of random gross death scenes. Terrible acting. Dumb effects. Awful story line.
