I'm no demographer nor a criminologist, but I reckon that the Herald probably has Auckland's murder rate wrong here. I reckon it's probably lower than 3.6 per person.

Impeccable reporting, no notes. www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/auckland/...
NZ Herald screenshot of an article in which Auckland mayor Wayne Brown talks about harbour crossings in an interview with Ryan Bridge:

'"I understand bridges better than professors of bridges," he told Bridge.'

85% of Apple Pie Bed's audience? Quite possibly. I'm guessing that Spotify chucked it on 'Upbeat Coffeeshop Afternoon' or whatever curated playlist it was throwing at everyone in 2016.

Also from the Economist (December 2007): better-looking people earn more. I wonder if the pancy-pants AI is just confirming human biases by picking out good looks.

Two equally valid ways to explain Wesley College's historical and cultural importance.
In the Herald, news about "NZ's oldest school". In Stuff, "Jonah Lomu's old school".

A lot can happen in half a sentence.
Screenshot of a context-free paragraph, from a news article. "Salis, who garnered half a million followers on the social media app TikTok after his sheep shearing videos evolved into travel content, was recorded making threats to decapitate his mother..."

TFW you're really good at writing clickbait headlines, but the bastards in charge of news article categorisation don't care for your talents.
From the home page of stuff.co.nz, a link to a news article. The photo is fuzzy, showing a bearded man of average build with long blond hair and a tight leopard-print top. The headline is, "Can you recognise this A-list star?". The article category, appearing above the headline, says "Jonah Hill".

Three consecutiove NZ Herald headlines: "Kiwis are cooking their sausages wrong", "Your coffee habit could be ruining your health", "Moving to Australia? Why Kiwis are being warned to rethink their plans."

Google search "auda wholesale price".

First result: Link to auDA.org.au with the title ".au domain name wholesale pricing". Preview text shows that the price is $9.50.

Second result: AI Overview - "There are no publicly listed wholesale prices for auDA..."

TFW when you see the parenthisised clarification before you see the take, and it's impossible to tell what sort of horrifying thing people are posting about today.

1. There was nothing in yesterday's announcement about removing support. 2. Neurodiversity is not an insult, but it's not something that any teacher should be posting about when they literally identify the kid. Looks like a breach of professional standards.

The coolest thing about my job is having competitors who straight up lie about how cheap they are. Never ever ever trust Freeparking, kids.
Freeparking's "Buy and register domain names" page, showing a .nz price of $22.48.Same Freeparking page after searching for a .nz domain, showing a price of $27.47.

Gregor Paul's written about on-field TV interviews of rugby captains in the Herald today. Makes some good points, but when an article is mostly about "F-bombs", the term "C-suite" suddenly looks quite rude.
Two paragraphs of text from a Herald article. The first contains the term "F-bomb". The second contains "C-suite". Only one of them is meant to be a shortened version of a rude word, but come on.

Despite a string of record-breaking drug busts, the local market has been flooded with methamphetamine supplied by Mexican cartels and Asian crime syndicates working with outlaw motorcycle gangs.
