The frustration when you're forced to use a mediocre piece of software and it's painfully obvious that no-one developing it has ever actually used it because doing even the most basic shit is super duper difficult or straight up impossible #software #tech #mildlyinfuriating #work

I just discovered avahi which lets you create domain names for the machines on your local network, like my-laptop.local, etc. And because NixOS is so awesome you just add a one-liner to to your config to enable it: ``` services.avahi = { enable = true; nssmdns4 = true; }; ``` (defaults […]

I learned about a new terminal multiplexer called herdr in a podcast, but thought they were saying "hurr durr" and struggled for a couple of minutes before I actually found it on GitHub. Now I want someone to make a terminal multiplexer called hurr-durr. #terminal #multiplexer #cli #tech #tui […]

I love #grayjay's ability to download videos so much. I get so much satisfaction out of having the video play basically instantly, including when skipping around in it.

A #lifehack for all my #grayjay enjoyers: if you press the download icon on the Watch Later playlist, any video that you add to it (by pressing the little clock icon on a video) will get automatically downloaded in one click, and then automatically cleaned up once you've watched it. @futograyjay […]

The worst thing about Nix is the amount of cringe you experience when listening to a podcast where they complain about how difficult it can be to install/ship software and get all dependencies to play nice, or get it to work for all Linux distros, etc. without any of the hosts knowing that Nix […]

@noboilerplate After watching your latest video, I got curious if you've tried Jujutsu (jj) VCS? I think it would pair really well with the Savepoint. jj is like Git 2.0 but still Git compatible, to the point where one's colleagues won't even notice that you're using it. Just two examples of […]

I just had this shower thought: What if some of the taxing of proprietary software sales went to free and open-source software, which ultimately all proprietary software relies on despite giving basically none of the money back to FOSS. That tax could also go to an independent organization […]

I need a team of scientists to study a specific pair of shoes that I have. I can't even take one step before they've magically somehow collected tiny pieces of gravel inside. And the more I walk, the more they rake in. This has to be some new kind of force of nature that could unlock entirely […]

To whom it may concern: if you're getting random cursor clicks on the screen while typing on your laptop, you may want to ensure that your touchpad gets disabled while typing. On Niri this is done by enabling `input.touchpad.dwt` which for some reason is DISABLED BY DEFAULT and it has been […]
