The last of four blooms. Not much left now of the stems. But I got 4 blooms. Gift from friends May 2023. BUT: if I repot this I may coax more stem growth from it: Not obvious in this photo but the foliage is healthy, fat, and green. I may yet get new stems.

Here's how the sausage was made. Literally. Men and boys filling sausage casings at an Armour plant in Chicago, 1898. The Price of Plenty: A History of Meat In America. Available everywhere in four formats. Read an excerpt at maureenogle.com
An 1898 photos of men and boys stuffing sausage casing at an Armour processing plant in Chicago. One guy pulls the long snake from the casing machine and the others tie them off into separate sausages. The sausages are draped over a horizontal rod. It's hard to tell exactly what they're doing but in effect they're tying the links. The youngest person looks like he's ready to haul away a section of sausage-laden horizontal rod.

I decided to illustrate the new book (The Price of Plenty: A History of Meat In America). This is from 1906, Puck Magazine. A evil butcher stands in for the very evil Beef Trust. On the shelves behind him, are the toxins he adds to the meat. Or so it was said.
