Generic Boulder meteorologist. PhD/MS from UNL, BS from Valpo. Would rather be on a mountain or watching a wall cloud right now. Opinions my own (or stolen from a nearby marmot).

Remarkable evolution of Hurricane Polo over the past 48 hours as it fluctuated between category 4 and 5 intensity during an eyewall replacement cycle (ERC) and subsequently re-strengthened to 180 mph (155 kt) as of the latest NHC advisory.

We have been feeding this to our barn cats for months, yet their ability to do even basic tasks (like oil and filter service) remains unimpressive. One star.

Question for bluesky weather people: does anyone know where RAP analysis data from 2019 might be stored? It's missing from NCEI's TDS server (www.ncei.noaa.gov/thredds/cata...), and I haven't been able to find it on AWS either (which only seems to have data from late 2020 onward).

Exciting results from my #32SLS talk include the ability to faithfully represent rapid, near-storm environmental response to supercells. Our 3-minute analyses yield a dang near spot-on inflow evolution of the 23 May 2022 Morton, TX storm over a multi-hour window.

Decided to have some fun plotting meso-relative PMM composites of low-end tornadic (EF0/1) and false-alarm warning (TOR warned / never produced a tornado during its whole lifecycle) supercells. Each storm's rotated so its forward flank Z gradient is in the x direction. Differences are pretty subtle.

Good illustration of how our atmosphere behaves like any other fluid. #ilwx
