Current desire: @aoc.bsky.social / @govpritzker.illinois.gov ticket. He’d make a great VP and could focus on anti-corruption, while she focuses on harmonizing domestic and foreign policy needs from the Oval Office.

Focused, short, knows what they’re doing…sure sounds like Pritzker to me. (He’s not actually that short but if we’re going with someone from IL, let it be him)

C-level to median comp remains a very, very good metric for how shitty a company is.

Side note: only slightly less ridiculous than the mission statement is this gem from the incubation announcement. “San Francisco is meritocratic and accessible in a way that is hard to explain. The doors are literally open.” No. Just no.

Second, the best tools to shape young world changers are expansive, not insular. At least if the kind of world change you want is expansive and doesn’t simply concentrate power in the hands of the few. Mainlining the tech bro indoctrination as a substitute for college does not a better world make.

“Our mission is to nurture the best young people in the world, and equip them with the tools to shape it.” First, there is no such thing as “the best young people in the world.” That whole concept is so antithetical to the notion of education that you should relinquish the title of educator.

I went to an elite international boarding school on full scholarship, have degrees in psychology and education, am a successful founder/investor, and Horowitz Andreessen Academy sounds like a terrible idea. a16z.com/announcement...

Except they don’t. Half of men 18-49 are actively gambling online and 85% of those believe they will end up ahead (statistically impossible). Our brains simply aren’t wired to “figure it out” in the face of overwhelming marketing.

Matt Wallaert @mattwallaert.com · 26/09/2026
One of the central tenets of behavioral science is there is only behavior change, not behavior elimination. Anything you eliminate has to go somewhere; you’re absolutely right that the “where?” of gambling is key.

I just did an interview about this that boils down to “quantification goes well only if you know what to quantify” - this tends to mean small things and big things but very little in the middle.

As per usual, humans acclimate quickly and are loss-sensitive. You’d think the end of a pandemic should be a party but because a lot of folks actually gained during the pandemic (because we finally did some stuff we should have been doing all along), the trailing end was mostly just loss after loss.

100%. After decades as a social psychologist, “My poverty and not my will consents” is the truest thing ever written and those not subject to poverty should be treated as though their acts are willful to an advanced degree.

I think we also can’t lose the context that 2023 was still pandemic-adjacent.

Step 1 of my surgery today: sign four forms. Can I read the forms? No, because they are electronic and there is no screen. And they don’t show up in the app until after I sign them. They can print them down the hall as an “accommodation”.

What’s disheartening is that this is precisely the opposite of it’s roots, which basically pointed out that a dollar spent on the world’s poorest people goes farther than a dollar spent on the world’s richest people.

I always wanted to ask, but obviously couldn’t, where they got the idea. Like - did you see it in a movie? Did you search for it online? Is there some vast hidden cultural cheating index I’m missing? One person carved the test answers into an apple. A fucking apple!

Now I’m laying here thinking about all the bad teachers who love the subject and trying to figure out what happened. I think the common theme is they felt like masters of the subject, rather than constantly wide-eyed voyagers.

Honestly, as a fucking phenomenal teacher with an Ed degree and a teaching certification, I think my psych degree did more for me and none of it did as much as just really, REALLY loving what I teach.
