Sad but true - this is the real point of the whole "social media ban for kids" - nothing to do with preventing harm, everything to do with building more surveillance tech. If they were serious about tackling this, they wouldn't ban it.

Found one of my favourite flowers out on a walk yesterday - St John's Wort. Usually in flower around now (June) but a fairly short season at least where I am. Used as a treatment for anxiety and depression - two things clearly on the rise in a society obsessed with endless growth and consumption 🫠

This is interesting as from my own investigation I have found evidence of US based organisations that do the same - on the outside they track "predators" on platforms like TikTok etc - but actually they seek to (also) carry out surveillance for their masters.

Yep! The thing I have learned is the massive extent of the problem. I am quite deluded, but not deluded as to think we can fix it (within our group alone!) - like other items from the polycrisis, they require a LOT of cross collaboration.

To clarify - I think there should be some groups who exist to raise awareness - and this is where their main focus should be (and that should be done through strong comms work, appealing to the masses etc). We want to focus on building/supporting/networking across the movement. Or that's the plan.

I agree but I don't think this should fall upon us - this is a movement for those who are aware of the issues (aka, we can't do everything, as much as we would like to!). But also - if we can do some awareness raising - we wouldn't avoid it. But want to have a more concrete goal here...
