People give it guff, but there is so much fun and entertaining stuff in BoBF. It’s an easy rewatch. Honestly the most jarring thing is the aside with RoboLuke and Mando. And MAN, the Temuera Morrison live stage interview was like experiencing a joyful cognitive break in real time. I want more.

I was gonna draw a Halloweeny thing every day this month but then I got obsessed with trying to ID Biggs Darklighter’s deleted scene jacket. Still not there, but I think it might be lamb skin. The arm zipper throws me, and what is that badge? Also, are those brown waxed-denim pants? Very retro.

There’s kind of a symmetry here. Small groups of creative people with a specific voice either die or retire. The art lives on but drifts and fizzles out. Weird-sounding character replacements emerge. Someone eventually has a good idea that is well received. The studio can’t figure out why.

I miss xeroxed party fliers that looked like the zodiac killer made them, invites of pixelated clip art and ugly borders, restaurant ads using Comic Sans and faded wet-looking food pics, engagement photos with that same faked soft-light glamor-shots effect… I miss bad art made in earnest.

Was playing LEGO Batman and decided to watch a DC movie. I landed on Birds of Prey and… it’s still good! People slept on this. This movie is one of the better DC things, and like… it makes me want a bacon egg and cheese.

Oh, I for sure made a fair offer. In 97 my uncle died, my father ended up in prison, and school had me in a remedial reading class instead of honors because of a system error. But I remember cartoons, Star Wars: SE, MiB, my first “girlfriend.” Nostalgia paints over reality in funny ways.

There’s a Korean show on Netflix called Take A Hike, where they take four semi-famous people who don’t hike and make them hike up incredible mountains. There is this question of “what’s this for?” and nobody has an answer, but the show is a good time. Koreans are better at reality tv.

I miss when a phaser cost like $20 for a nice Art Asylum one at any mall toy store, and THAT was what seemed a little unreasonable. Now it’s like “here’s a $600 Captain Proton blaster that does nothing.” And people buy it? Come on, some cool merch for us middle class urchins.
