On a (domestic) flight and it’s World Cup as far as the eye can see

Went to write a post about how I wanted to be wearing one of those FIFA american flag jerseys right about now, and went to search for an image for the tweet, and my brain did that thing it always does when I try to write or read "USMNT"

Anyone else? (No good results, sadly, but damn if I didn't enjoy watching their World Cup run)

Working on some YouTube videos for the first time in aaaaaaaaaaaages. Gosh, I love recording and editing video.

Just recorded the first episode of The Laravel Podcast in months! And this time.. I have a plan to make it more consistent, with less breaks between chunks of each season. Coming out next Tuesday!

I've now had *five* people tell me limiting Pragmatic AI ( pragmaticai.fm ) to 45 minutes is the wrong decision 🤣 Mayyyybe I push it to an hour limit?

I just experienced something I'm going to call "Rage phishing". We used Act-on years ago, and I just got this email purportedly from Act-on about how they're going to automatically add a political support button to every email we send. Not really Act-on, of course, but clever!

Dang. Just got a notification from my tests on an old project that we won't be able to use /** @test */ on PHPUnit anymore? It's a sad day. (I know I can replace them with the #[Test] annotation, it's just.. these were such an integral part of my learning to test...)

Ok, so basically the deal is: you just need a few specific tools and then it becomes *significantly* easier. Although between the tools and the batteries this is definitely going to need its own little toolkit. But it’s very manageable. Four down, two to go.

Matt Stauffer @mattstauffer.com · 05/10/2025

Current status: trying to learn how to replace watch batteries because $30/watch just ain’t worth it. Man this is more complex than I feared.

OK, so the Tighten logo isn't the only thing exciting (to me) about the Wire:Live web site. I'm also super excited to share I'll be speaking! We love using Livewire as one of our primary frontend stacks at @tighten.com, so I'm honored to be on stage for the inaugural conference!

Matt Stauffer @mattstauffer.com · 05/09/2025

Two of my favorite things to do as a founder: - Make great swag - Sponsor great events Very sexy seeing the Tighten logo right up there on wire-live.com! Excited to see y'all there in October!

Anyone I know have any experience with Xeric watches? I'm ... obsessed

I got a new camera, and (unlike my last camera) it streams 4k to the computer. Unexpected outcome.

You'll be unsurprised to hear that I've built an app to track my progress along each video course I create. One useful thing it does is inspect the state of the video files (has audio been processed? etc.) and presents appropriate buttons to trigger conditional ffmpeg scripts.

Matt Stauffer @mattstauffer.com · 04/08/2025

If you attended Laracon US, you already know this, but: I'm currently wrapping up the last three videos of my upcoming course, which is all about how I built the incredible development team at @tighten.com. The course will be free (!!), hosted on Laracasts, and out this autumn!

Found this at the Dollar Tree and it now has me legitimately wondering if I’m about to get into collecting Matchbox cars??

Matt Stauffer @mattstauffer.com · 18/07/2025

I'm deep into recording my next course. The topic on this one is *very different*--I don't know if we have anything else like it in the Laravel community or even much outside of it. I'm very, very excited about everything I'm sharing here. Definitely my most personal course.

Just added another round of new entries to BuiltWithLaravel. Need to make the process to add entries faster so I can get them in there, but still adding a few a week! (builtwithlaravel.com)

Just got a reminder of these photos from 17 (!!) years ago on Facebook. Anyone else get really into the One Laptop Per Child back in 2007-2008? I really thought this thing was gonna change the world.

Two pictures. Left picture is a bearded white man (Matt Stauffer) holding a small green and white laptop, and the right picture is the same laptop on the floor with antenna pointed up.

Saying hey to the PHP community in Atlanta with some ASW distillery drinks and Antico Pizza. And new friends! Love seeing Tighten logo in the real world. Maybe I should sponsor more things.

Choose your school district name, the date, whether or not it's canceled, and the URL for your broadcast, and then you're good to go! If kids are younger you can pull it up for them, but I imagine you could maybe put it on the fridge for when older kids wake up? 🤷🏻‍♂️

110

Matt Stauffer @mattstauffer.com · 11/01/2025

I was just thinking how kids these days don't get the experience of waking up in the morning to check to see whether school is canceled for a snow day. So I threw up a mini site that lets you create a custom URL you or your kids can visit to check! snowdaytv.com

We're working to have less plastic in our kitchen and around our food. Trying to find some good kid-friendly cups and almost every result on Amazon is for these "wheat straw" cups, that make you think they're great... until you see it's wheat straw and polypropylene... a plastic. lol.

I was just telling my kids about dying from dysentery in The Oregon Trail when I was their age, so we looked it up... Did you know you can play The Oregon Trail (and three later versions and a sequel, "The Yukon Trail") for free online?? 🤯 oregontrail.ws

A screenshot of a game, titled "The Oregon Trail", with a menu showing:

"You may:
1. Travel the trail
2. Learn about the trail
3. See the Oregon Top Ten
4. Turn sound off
5. Choose Management Options
6. End

What is your choice? _"

You can see both the need to clean the window and the Halloween decorations together in one perfect shot lol

A window with Halloween sticky decorations on it. Decorations spell “ha ha big weeny lol”

This is the earliest we’ve ever started decorating for Christmas and I have *zero* regret or shame.

So grateful to @dyrynda.au for his friendship over many years, and for making it possible for Imani and me to come to Brisbane for the last few days! We had such an amazing time meeting so many great people, and experiencing an *incredibly* executed conference.

Haha Adidas Stan Smiths! Love these shoes.

I’ve given dozens of conference talks over more than a decade and I still can’t shake getting so hugely nervous every time I’m sitting here.

I recently met a delightful bunch of programmer live streamers, & it made me wonder.. when did I *start* my programming live streams? Earliest video I've found is from *2015*. 😳 Good gravy. Vue.js 1.0 had *just* been released, and I remember Evan You (Vue's creator) dropped in on a stream! 👨🏻‍🦳

Definitely keep checking back on builtwithlaravel.com, I keep adding sites there over time! Think I may play around with the BlueSky API to send an automatic post here every time I add a new site there….

I can’t tell you how long it took me to figure out that black thing is the spatula. Because the bottom half of it is darker it looked like some sort of heavy weight
