Twenty minutes to add player input to my game, then an evening on one bug I fixed three times, each fix making it quieter. Loud test failure, then a crash, then an unrelated entity silently wrecked in another test. mattlake.codes/blog/fixing-...

Fixing the Same Bug Three Times | Matthew Lake
I spent an evening adding player input to my game, and most of it went on one bug that kept coming back wearing a different hat. The lesson turned out to be about something C# gives you for free.

Keeping the streak up I have another post about my journey as a c# developer writing a game and engine in go. This one is about how writing code in go has been sending me back to the c# docs. mattlake.codes/blog/what-wr...

What Writing an Entity System in Go Taught Me About C# | Matthew Lake
A pointer to an entity seemed like the obvious thing to hand out. It was not, and working out why sent me back to the C# documentation rather than the Go.

CTO has made a decision to change our front end from angular to react because it "works better with ai". I've just spent 4 months recruiting angular developers. Madness.

The second post about my journey of building a game 'from scratch' in go. This one covers why may game runs at 64 ticks rather than the more conventional 60. mattlake.codes/blog/why-my-...

Why My Game Thinks 64 Times a Second | Matthew Lake
Letting the player’s computer decide how fast the game runs causes problems. Picking my own rate turned out to be more interesting than I expected.

Using AI for coding all day got me thinking: can I still build things by hand? "If you're nothing without this suit, then you shouldn't have it." Ditching C# & big engines to write a game in Go from scratch. Post here (devlogs to follow as regrets build): mattlake.codes/blog/why-i-a...

Why I Am Writing a Game From Scratch in Go | Matthew Lake
Leaving the engine, the framework and the AI code generation behind to build a puzzle platformer by hand, and what Go’s value semantics taught me in the first week.

I switched back to Roslyn last week and it is much better than it was a couple of months ago. Not sure whether it was Roslyn or my set up though to be fair.

How is dotnet LSP set up in neovim so buggy and slow? Waiting 60 for the lsp to attach (if it does at all) seems silly. Other LSPs don't have this issue.

I'm afraid this needs to be owned by the USA as a whole, and denying that just perpetuates the cycle. Sadly I don't think the USA is ready for that yet.

Matt Lake @mattlake.codes · 21/03/2026
I am not sure how other countries, typically allies, can trust the USA in the future if this kind of individual can be elected, and the type of governance can flip so wildly every election cycle.

Matt Lake @mattlake.codes · 21/03/2026
As a non American I can only say that it doesn't matter. He won the election on every metric (popular, college etc). It was no secret what kind of person the USA chose to take the reins, and saying otherwise is just copium. The actions he takes in public office reflects on the USA as a nation,

If I recall correctly Trump won the popular vote so as a nation they should own the damage they have done domestically and internationally.
000
Matt Lake @mattlake.codes · 20/03/2026
I am not sure the damage that Trump is doing to the relationships with partners and allies can ever be repaired.

So why am I seeing differing results to everyone else? Is everyone else just doing Todo lists or API wrappers? Am I incompetent at this? Are they being dishonest and just hyping because it is the cool thing to do?

When we have finally got some code outputted, usually after multiple sessions used just for planning, I find myself having to correct many parts, some for simple things. When the feature it implemented has a bug it have up after a few hours of trying to fix it, I fixed it in 5 minutes.

Matt Lake @mattlake.codes · 05/03/2026
I have been using it on a large distributed system with multiple complex domains. When trying to implement a new feature Claude just can't understand all of the moving parts. I have spent 5 days trying to get Claude to do something I could have done myself in 3

My experiences of Claude code and the experiences of others online seem to differ greatly. The more I realise this may be a skill issue on my part, but the more I use it the safer my job feels.

Foxes are great. I managed to get a snap of one just chilling at our doors last year, they came back multiple times a week and just sat there. They would happily share the space with you.

My employer had asked me to use Claude code for a couple of weeks and and assess it's usefulness to the business. Hit the session limit in a couple of hours and I am already a good chunk into the weekly allowance. Looks like expectations may need to be changed

It is taking all of my self control to not buy a Go60 keyboard. I use a Glove80 as my daily but on the occasion that I travel to the office I find it a pain. The carry case is massive and fills my backpack leaving little space for all the snacks I need to pack.

I have TeamCity "will not compile" errors showing in @rider.jetbrains.com and I don't use team city. Is there a way to disable these errors? Or maybe disable TeamCity/TeamCity inspections? It is just annoying when navigating the errors in a solution.

Interesting, and a little worrying. I find it hard to see the longer term plan of this example not being malicious, but it may just be my pessimistic view of the situation

I like the take in this thread. It is good to see someone who creates an AI tool for devs not pushing the fallacy that it will make developers redundant

Trying to find an issue causing an object to be disposed, nested within multiple using blocks. It is horrible. My assumption is that an exception is being thrown down in the bowels and getting lost in the layers of the onion.
