Here is our experimental answer to the question of how plant leaves take up volatiles. Tested with the very cool Kalanchoë laxiflora, which has two types of leaves with opposite stomatal opening patterns. With @heikelindner.bsky.social and colleagues. Happy reading! t.co/aU77BZTqYV

Fellow scientists: We have left X (formerly Twitter), and ceded the field to software and technology advocates who babble about science. And people who criticize academia. This is not good. It will come back to bite us. Already does. We need to get back into the ring, even if we don't like it!

A guardian of alpine meadow diversity. A Swiss engineering marvel. And my personal fitness trainer. The Rapid 505.

I do miss Sci. Twitter. It was such a great platform for informal exchange between colleagues of all career stages, plus a great mix with Tech & Society. Somehow we failed to build something equivalent once Twitter eroded. How do we get the spirit back?

There are no big questions in biology. Only unexplained observations.

Days of anonymous peer-review are officially over. I'm relieved and worried. Relieved that destructive reviews will become rarer (we will know who you are!). Worried because we have to make sure we keep our objectivity and standards and not descend into nepotism.

The @science.org submission system now automatically extracts author and funding information from the manuscript file. Such a simple feature. Such a time saver. Thank you!

Scientists build careers on problems. Entrepreneurs build them on solutions. That's why the latter tend to be more optimistic. And why adopting their mindset can be so empowering.

Visit from the "Senior University" today. Lots of interest in plant volatiles and future crop reprogramming.

Dear @jxbotany.bsky.social. I don't want to log back in to your review platform to search for the outcome of a review I conducted for you. Please send a copy of the other reviews and decision letter via email. It's important to see opinions of colleagues, and time is precious. 🙏

Herbivory-induced green leaf volatiles increase plant performance through jasmonate-dependent plant–soil feedbacks - Nature Plants
This study reports that herbivory-induced volatiles can trigger plant–soil feedbacks that boost performance and yields of cereals in the field.
