Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026He’s a lot better at English then he lets on. Especially listening comprehension. I’d use the language barrier to get out of things if I were a player. 😂 He’s super kind and thoughtful when you get him casually outside of availabilities. 000 0

Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Sports FO’s are fascinating & their work largely equal parts puzzle & bankroll. Interesting #Rapids96 storylines: ▫️President Out Of Contract EOS ▫️CBO ambitious to rebuild brand, community trust ▫️Players’ psych pre/post transfer window ▫️How ‘26 finish impacts marketability of ‘27 sprint season 030 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026To be clear, I: ▫️do think Wells is a good coach ▫️do trust the scouting on Maziz, Farkhi, Whittaker, Sadiq ▫️ do think #Rapids96 will be good in ‘27 However, I wonder if ‘27 is too late to capitalize on the ‘26 World Cup zeitgeist, claw back market share from Summit and brace schedule change. 141 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026I also think #Rapids96 overachieved in their August matches, which made the prospect of a USOC run and a first round playoff advance look more probable. Like when your old car stops making that funny noise on the highway right after you decided to trade it in. Delay the rebuild or push on? 210 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Reductively: miss out on USOC OR miss out on Whittaker I think #Rapids96 FO, with or without Matt Wells, looked at the pre-WC roster & results, decided to take their medicine and punt to ‘27. Smith & Wells both shifted the way they were talking about the season in the beginning of August. 110 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026By all accounts, Rafa wanted to stay with a raise. #Rapids96 not comfortable meeting his terms. ▫️Became win more in ‘26 & take a $4M haircut to sell Rafa ‘27 OR ▫️Get a player (Whittaker) you REALLY LIKE while you can & with an assimilation period ahead of ‘27 110 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026$12M, straight 💵 Cash ▫️That’s how much one club (STL) decided a run at 2 ‘26 trophies & a CONCACAF Champions Cup berth was worth. ▫️That’s also how much another club (COL) decided building for ‘27-‘29 was worth. ▫️Opportunity Cost = Whittaker NOW vs ‘26 Hardware Shot + $8m/Different Winger in ‘27 151 0
Matthew Wick @matthewwick.bsky.social · 12/10/2026Since the Rafa Transfer: ▫️Rafael Navarro: 7 Goals (2 Assists) in 6 Games ▫️STL Record w/ Rafa: 5-1-0 ▫️Rapids: 8 Goals in 7 Games ▫️COL Record w/o Rafa: 1-3-3 🗓️9/1: ▫️STL #6, 34 points, USOC Chance ▫️COL #7, 31 points, USOC Chance 🗓️10/11: ▫️STL #2, 50 points, USOC Chance ▫️COL #8, 37 points 050 0

Easiest route was winning out at home. They'll now look to steal 3 points on the road (or draw all three away 🤷♂️), in addition to 9 points at home to reach 12. #COLvSJ 001 0

Rapids hold the 4th place side to a draw. Will feel both grateful for it and disappointed in their own chances to go up. #COLvSJ 101 0
