Thank you! I'm glad the late-night redesigns for the jam were well-received.

A group of friends and I ran our own week-long game Jam, and we built an Idler around fishing, in space(ish). We liked the concept so much, we are going to continue working on it after the Jam ends tonight. Otherwise, here is a quick snippet of the game's pixel art style.

All this hype around AI reminds me of the blockchain hype several years ago. Why does no one ever ask how a tool supports accomplishing the business goals? It seems instead that the tool is chosen first, then the goals are designed to fit the tool.

As someone who enjoys playing multiplayer strategy and tactical (E.g., War Thunder) games, I feel this. It can take several games to just remember how to play well, all while getting stomped on by other players.

One feature I want other social media sites to implement from Bluesky is to give the user control over their feed. Seeing endless promoted posts outside of my friends/network, unrelated to anything I'm into destroys all desire to engage with others on the platform.

I've been anti-TypeScript for several years, despite primarily using it for work. I recently went back to vanilla JavaScript to work on an old project. I now cannot fathom the idea of not using TypeScript for the majority of applications.

Errors which just tell the user "Something went wrong" are half baked. I know I'm guilty of this in the past and now attempting to address this... but taking some time to think about what the users' intention was and offering some action they can take is really sound advice.

It might be a few years before we see true AI integration with our applications... though as a UI guy, I'm excited to see how AI will be utilized to dynamically render UI components that best fit the user's needs and preferences. It could be huge for information accessibility.

Its an everything tool! I've seen designers use it to make games… and some companies as their primary database.

You can use typeof and instanceof for limited dynamic type-checking. Typescript offers a more robust static type-checking system. The added complexity by typescript would be that added layer for type-checking you mention. It allows a dev to catch errors early and write a more maintainable code base.

Headless UI libraries like Radix and Shadcn have completely changed how I architecture web components. All vital functionality and accessibility with full control over implementation and aesthetics. Headless UI libraries are the future.

Visually stunning! Impressive work.

My first ever VR experience I remember forgetting the real world existed after 1-2 minutes. It was a rock climbing game. It was incredibly immersive, so much when I missed a ledge and fell; I literally thought I was falling. Great experience but the novelty wore out fast. I haven't touched VR since.

They’ve been doing this for the past few years. I still believe they are lowering head count in preparation for a recession and all the reasoning is just a lie.

I’m concerned myself with the direction the current administration is heading. I like to think the ADA will remain untouched… That being said I do think the need for designers with accessibility training will remain the same in the immediate future. I doubt civil lawsuits and pressure will stop.

I can not verify firsthand, but on Reddit, there are posts sharing screenshots where DeepSeek believes it's ChatGPT. I would not be surprised if they had trained their model from OpenAI. That being said... I find it hypocritical that their data should be protected while ours is not.

I have seen this happen first hand. 1) Generate code 2) Insert code 3) Find bug in code -> repeat step 1. This resulted in entire files of code being outright replaced for small changes.

I tried uninstalling OneDrive one time. It always reinstalls after a reboot and system update.

Many years ago I remember teaching people how to navigate the internet. Every so often someone would say, what is the internet? I explain and they say, “oh you mean the E”. Then they completely understood.

I've been play-testing BattleCry lately. My friends and I love war-based board games and often create campaigns from them. BattleCry interfaces with any board game and enables a game master to create dynamic campaigns easily. It's been a huge hit in the friend group last year.

The fact we don’t have much control over data being sold, and nothing is being done about it.

I’ve only heard about design token’s recently. After reading up on it seems fairly similar to common naming conventions and organizational patterns for web dev class names and CSS variables. Its honestly pretty cool to see new practices emerge to bridge the gap between developers and designers.

Hello Bluesky! I've been lurking around for a while and thought I would finally give the platform a shot. Any tech, designer, or developer groups ya'll recommend? I'm a full-stack designer and looking to get involved with the community again after leaving X.

A lot of tech today absolute does suck and fights us more often than not to use it for its intended purpose. I’m hoping this eventually inspires more competition in tech to bring back user-centered design.

Also how do you like VR? I played with it a few times, it’s amazing but I very quickly forget the real world exists which causes issues. 🤣

I have come across a few PRs where the entire function or class was outright replaced to address a small issue. Each time, the code was different. The developer just copied whatever the AI wrote.

I use it personally from time to time. It's not ideal and has issues contextually suggesting code, but the code works. My issue with AI is when developers use it to produce code without understanding it, simply copying and pasting answers.

One of many reasons why I switched away from Windows. Several dialogs to review terms and services before I can even use the device, ads in the start and notification menu, vendor pre-installed apps, and more issues here and there that are just an annoyance. I just want to use the device I paid for.

I feel like this may be making a slow comeback as “Full-Stack Designer” in recent years. Having a broad understanding of design and in-depth knowledge of frontend development is required. You have to do both design and development just as you described.

Light mode during the day and dark mode at night are my preferred settings for every app and website. Easier on the eyes and easier to read the content.

Twitter went down hill as soon as anyone could pay for a verification badge. The user experience has been in constant decline after that.

Agreed. UX is king for user centric apps. I think it will help BlueSky immensely. I hope BlueSky will be able to maintain this with their rise in popularity and as they develop their monetization strategy.

Xcode is my least favorite. AppCode used to be a decent alternative IDE but it was discontinued.

Completely fair take. I typically love game jams only because it’s a way to challenge my skills and learn something new. The fact it’s a short sprint means I spend more time learning and having fun than perfecting it.
