Looking forward to watching it after you mentioned it at the Folk Horror show in Birmingham. There's also a 15min feature about it before it starts.

@scarredforlife.bsky.social I was listening to Mail Bag 2 and you mentioned the upside down daleks in Boots. I instantly recognised them as the security cameras that moved. It felt like being in 1984 and all your movements in the shop were being tracked - scary stuff!

They showed this at my school, it left me scared of falling and hurting myself if I was near corrugated iron sheets and now watching it for the first time since then it wasn't corrugated sheets at all!

Great playlist! If you do a CD "release" of this can I suggest A Day in Space by Ballboy as a bonus track...... or Essential Wear For Future Trips to Space by them as well.

I tried the Google AI overview for a made up saying and got this for "A fan on a desk and a cup of tea is better than a cold shower" Apparently my nonsense is 'In summary, it’s a humorous way of saying, "Let's just relax and be comfortable, rather than doing something drastic."'

"A fan on a desk and a cup of tea is better than having a cold shower" is a humorous, typically British, colloquial saying used to express that gentle, comfort-focused methods of cooling down or managing life's difficulties are preferable to harsh, extreme, or "heroic" measures.
It emphasizes comfort, moderation, and tradition over sudden, uncomfortable shocks.

In summary, it’s a humorous way of saying, "Let's just relax and be comfortable, rather than doing something drastic."

If you watched the episodes when they were broadcast it would be around 138 hours of your life! I appreciate your sacrifice!

@scarredforlife.bsky.social Not exactly a scar, more a disappointment for life. I was a massive Thunderbirds fan and eagerly watched the Thunderbird 6 movie excited at what amazing vehicle Thunderbird 6 would be only to find out it was just a biplane. It was such a disappointment!

This should have happened years ago. It will be interesting how this affects first day tickets sales and allow the fans that want to go get then at a normal price. Will tickets selling out in seconds be a thing of the past?

Bandcamp for me, i cancelled Amazon Music and I'm using the money I spent on that to buy records direct from bands when I see them live or via Bandcamp especially on Bandcamp Friday so the bands get more money back.

@marcrileydj.bsky.social Loved the song Last Song Last Train by Hann on the show tonight. Reminded me of when I was watching Ballboy in Birmingham, was just about 2 leave to catch the last train when they started thier last song, one of my faves so I stopped for the song and had to run to catch it.

I played this on the Spectrum. It was hard to beat if you were NATO and impossible to win if you were Warsaw Pact if you played on the highest level as the computer would launch a nuclear attack to stop you winning. To quote the film Wargames "The only winning move is not to play"

000

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 03/08/2025

Are children born evil or made evil? Looking back i can't belive we read this at school as its a very dark story. It was also made into a film that somehow made it even more disturbing.

000

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 03/08/2025

Does anyone remember the play Unman, Wittering & Zigo? We read through the script at school in the 80s. It involves a new teacher replacing the previous teacher who died in an accident... or was he murdered? Intimidation by the pupils and suicide. @scarredforlife.bsky.social

Just watched The War Game....... that really chilling that I though was more hard hitting than Threads. I think the documentary style and linking it to real life examples of what happened in Hiroshima brings home the horror of Nuclear war.

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 25/07/2025

I've never seen The War Game so I'll definatly watch it. I've only recently seen Threads and I don't think my sanity another re-watch!

Cool, I'll make a start on reading the books. Sounds like the series and books complement each other. Thanks for the recommendation!

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 12/07/2025

How do the novels compare to the tv series? It's one of my favourite shows at the moment.

100

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 07/07/2025

I found this vision of the future quite disturbing at the time. Thankfully the rest of the book had a more positive and upbeat vision of the future!

010

Matthew Pimm @matthewpimm.bsky.social · 07/07/2025

This also made me remember the World of the Future books by Usborne. I had the Future Cities book. Just had a look at some scans of the pages and I had forgotten this horrific version of the future, a polluted pesthole, a city of a dying world, and jets trailing a plume of filth.
