Following an MI or stroke it took over 3 years for risk of postop MI to return to baseline for elective surgery. Adverse outcomes after surgery after a cerebrovascular accident or acute coronary syndrome: a retrospective observational cohort study doi.org/10.1016/j.bja.2024.08.029.

Appreciate it could be either way - % cog decline could be higher (as a driver for loss to follow up) or lower (got better and didn’t bother to engage with follow up)

Fully aware of the challenges in hip fracture trials there is a very large loss to follow up (~70% lost to follow up). These results are informative but I view them with considerable caution. Can we truly say 25% have cog decline if it’s only 25% of the 30% who could be reached?
