Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 04/10/2026BC Conservatives won't disavow their openly homophobic candidate? That's everything you need to know. #bcpoli 1157
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 28/09/2026Tomato, zucchini, and squash haul have been crap this year, but the peppers aren't doing bad. I still have about this many more on the plant. These will be perfect for fajitas tonight. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 28/09/2026I don't know who's running Oakridge Mall but... A broken escalator is stairs. They are stairs. For random strangers, we all looked at each other confused, and just moved the barrier. 200
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 27/09/2026Going local with my hot sauce addiction. This shit is good. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 21/09/2026But the sad part, now we'll never get to make all these jokes... 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 20/09/2026This is why people hate developers, they put in all the wired smoke detectors but took 3 days to put batteries in them. So you could hear these continual chirps from two blocks away the entire time. Even now there's at least one missing a battery because I can hear the chirp a block away every 20s. 301
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 14/09/2026A day early because Monday is busy with work/school and kid activities, but La Mezcaleria on The Drive was freaking delicious. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 13/09/2026Figured it out, you can only use the east side. Hi @stickers66.bsky.social. 120
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 31/08/2026After recent events, this Canada made product I bought at Safeway seems to be trying to skirt our own labeling regulations. Scan for cooking instructions, PDF is in English only, no French. Displeased. Let's see if I'm lazy or email the proper federal authorities. 100
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 29/08/2026It's been too long since I've had Ethiopian. That was this month in exposing the children to world cuisines. It's been at least 14 years since I've been to Gojo. 020
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 17/08/2026I bought a new Schlage lock, it was DOA, gears are stripped or something, I hear the motor grinding but nothing moves. But that customer service and warranty experience was probably one of the best I've ever had, quick, professional, empathetic. I was feeling bitter towards them but now I feel okay. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 15/08/2026Just opening the box and looking through everything I need to...put on ebay? I don't know. It's a big box. And not the only one. 100
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 12/08/2026More of the stuff for my father I now need to clean out. Anyone want a morganite carbon shunk? These are what goes into a trolley bus shoe (old Brill trolleys) that wears down as it's going around town. We used to have a few hundred in the basement, fortunately he got rid of those. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 13/07/2026I think visitors might end up riding back and forth a few times waiting to arrive at that station...one important detail missing. 100
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 12/07/2026Finally ditching my old 1990 hockey cards. I just got $10 for this one. And my Gretzky and Lemieux are apparently absolutely perfect, if I submit them for grading they're over $100 each. Cool, better than I thought I would get. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 11/07/2026Guilt and Co, one of the best live music venues in the city. I love this place. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 06/07/2026I came back from getting coffee and entered my office to find this... 🤣 The fun of working in office again. 020
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 25/06/2026Ha-ha! Xiao smart ir mate works controlling the receiver. Squeeze client on Pi to Apple USB DAC, all running on DietPi and powered by a PoE splitter. Music Assistant streaming things. Living room/kitchen/patio ceiling speaker remote control achieved, finally. Great success! 020
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 19/06/2026I notice it doesn't say the money is pledged to help *fight* climate change. With all his rockets and giant yachts, I think he's already pledged at least 10 billion towards climate change... 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 11/06/2026Slow progress with the new gadget, still a little buggy. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 07/06/2026Trying to get my Pi to use an IR diode to control the power on my receiver. I'm still not sure if the led isn't bright enough or the codes are wrong, it does look dimmer than the remote when looking through my phone. I'm going to try wiring it to a 3.5" jack in the back, direct signal to it. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 05/06/2026Tomorrow is a colleague's last day, today was my last meeting with him because I'm off tomorrow. So I had to dress up for the occasion. I'll need to go visit the Canadian London one of these days. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 02/06/2026These came out beautifully, maybe a little salty, but so delicious. I love the crusting that I achieved. Sometimes I'm really good at rubbing meat. 120
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 30/05/2026At The Arts Club Theater for a children's festival show, I can't remember the last time I was at the Arts Club. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 30/05/2026Making progress with my Home Assistant voice controls, I can communicate with it via Signal until I get some some hardware for voice. Deepseek V4 Flash for the model. I still need to annotate more devices, and set up some skills. 100
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 30/05/2026This was definitely an interesting find at Parthenon Market. I like them. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 25/05/2026The elder child is becoming very astute at riding around town. 030
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 24/05/2026Things I know I should get rid of, but I just can't, baby's first library card. Fine it's going in the garbage. 100
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 24/05/2026Cleaning up the basement, some of the stuff I don't know what to do with. Likely just going in the trash. I'm going to be very more selective about souvenirs in the future. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 17/05/2026Nice day for a baseball game, only a 10 minute walk. And The Canadians just hit a home run. 040
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 17/05/2026This is going to be a good summer, bbq setup is coming together, got the built in patio speakers finally powered to blast the tunes, Taiwanese whiskey, this is good. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 16/05/2026I assume this new utter waste of money down by BC Place is because of FIFA. 121
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 10/05/2026Child's first civic engagement. Attending the tall buildings workshop, she wanted to make her opinions known. Good for her. 240
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 03/05/2026More downsizing by my parents. The A&W one is an original 1960s one. Though knowing my follower the trolley bus one more likely catches people's attention. If we ever have our house warming you may get to drink out of a Flyer E901 mug. 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 03/05/2026Vancouver Parks Board finally solved the issue of the water fountain that was broken for 3+ years at Douglas Park, they just removed it. 🤦♂️ 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 20/04/2026Fucker, "I'm important, I'm going to park in the bike rack." Now I can't lock my bike up. I had to make sure that license plate was niiiice and visible. #vancouver 132
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 13/04/2026I don't even know what that means in this context. But fuck, Eby isn't helping right now. This pandering to people who will never vote for him will never work, the left needs to stop doing it. 110
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 12/04/2026We forgot something yesterday, why drive all the way back down there. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 12/04/2026I'm really enjoying borrowing my wife's Tern. A good Sunday morning. And I'm also feeling a lot more relaxed about locking it, sitting here staring straight at it, front wheel locked, nowhere anyone could take it quickly, this feels safe. 010
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 05/04/2026And, acquired. From some dude just around the corner from John and Helen. 111
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 02/04/2026This is the sort of thing that really pisses me off with the City of Vancouver. I understand the goal trying to do, make a nice protected bike lane on the approach to King Ed. But it means the bus has no way to jump the traffic, it's going to get delayed, slowing service, making it less attractive. 110
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 28/03/2026What the hell, Canada? Why can't we drop our bags at the main station like everyone else? 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 26/03/2026Meanwhile we're at the National Taiwan Science Education Centre looking at rocks. (the albatross was stuffed and life sized) 000
Matthew Laird @matthewlaird.ca · 24/03/2026I had never heard of this Taiwanese whiskey but apparently it is award-winning. I'm bringing home a bottle. But wow they're confident in themselves, it's pricey. 000
