Introducing the campest katydid of all time. 🦄💅🏽👸💞 Why would this animal (Arota festae) have evolved this way, other than to look utterly fabulous? We have unleashed some (slightly whacky) thoughts, now out in @esajournals.bsky.social. Photo credit: @zekerowe.bsky.social doi.org/10.1002/ecy.... 1/n

Happy to see one of my Panama Ph.D. chapters finally out today in Ecology (doi.org/10.1002/ecy....) and Bulletin of the Ecological Society of America (doi.org/10.1002/bes2...). This work explores how insect and fungi respond to a widespread disturbance in lowland tropical forest—lightning 🌩! (1/8)

Nature is not a blocker to growth. The UK Chancellor Rachel Reeves has claimed that 'The balance has gone too far in the direction of always protecting every bat and every newt.' But how can this statement be true when the UK is one of the most nature depleted countries in the world?🌍
A thriving natural world is the foundation of economic growth and vital for health and wellbeing. Language that pits these against each other is unhelpful and deeply concerning.

Eco-anxiety is a chronic fear of environmental disaster, and entomologists often find themselves face to face with the effects of climate change, as changing distributions of insects create increased risks of food insecurity, disease outbreaks, and threats to biodiversity.
