If the CVEs are in something like the Go standard library or compiler, it's ok to build the apps yourself. At least in open source.

Emailing the open source maintainers for a project that keeps up with correcting for CVEs in dependencies causes those maintainers to do more work. If they already keep up, you need to do nothing. Please don't add paperwork to open source maintainers.

Built a website from scratch for the first time in years. Used AI this time. 1. No framework, all custom JS and CSS 2. There's less CSS and JS from when I use a framework 3. Built it much faster than I used to It was a great experience.

Went to fix what I thought was a bad switch only to discover a disconnected wiring harness. Such an easy fix. Feels good working on physical things after a day in front of a computer.

I disagree. I would make it portable. Don't tightly couple to anyone. They I could operate it where ever works best for my needs.

I'm amazed at the number of people who want to build solutions at scale as #Kubernetes API extensions. This is just not going to work.

Looking into either interfaces or Generics in #golang to solve a problem. This is going to be an interesting deep dive.

Did you know the automotive auxiliary power outlet (cigarette lighter) in cars can put out more power than the USB outlets usually do? With USB you often get 1a at 5v (even usb-c outlets). With the auxiliary outlet you often get much more.

As a long time Internet professional (and former web dev), I find this to be both hilarious and sad. FWIW, this one is on Congress.

If I read this right, in the Trump case where a judge is ordering the restoring of web pages, it's partially due to a violation of the Paper Reduction Act (of 1980). The government has processes designed for paper from the time before the web existed applied to updates of things shared over the web

How did CachyOS/Arch deal with standby time? Lid closed, sleeping, nothing happening. Does the battery last more than a day when it's like this?

Most articles on the Internet try to use titles that will catch your attention and then have the real info at the bottom to keep you on the site scrolling for longer. Makes more money this way. More painful for readers, though.

Which #Linux distro is best for laptops when considering battery life, lid handling, different types of sleep, etc? Why? I realize this is an entirely loaded and color of the bike shed topic.

I know people who retired early and burned through their money pretty quickly. They had to go back to work and this was much harder. Moral of the story, not everyone is aware of their finances and burn rates. Some people who retire early screw themselves.

Are we raising people who are willing to put in sweat labor? Many of the younger people I know (be it teenagers or those in their 20's) do not work very hard. This could just be the people I know as many of them like to play video games, play on their phones, but not work at anything much.

Affordable is the issue. We will need to see a relative reduction in house cost to make them affordable. Supply will need to go up greatly and we will need a system that doesn't keep homes off the market to keep values up (I witnessed some of this with foreclosures kept off intentionally).

Matt Farina @mattfarina.com · 05/01/2025
Where I live we have a shortage in skilled trades needed to build, modify, and repair homes. And, it's currently on track to get worse rather than get getter. There are also a lot more boomer generation homes than many realize.

A whole lot of things I access via the browser (and pinned to my home screen) on mobile because companies want to stalk us far too much for my comfort. Meta wanting access to be able to log passwords and other sensitive things is icky, to me. Ref: www.reuters.com/technology/a...
