Dude buys a Real Doll and announces that women are over

It changed because of the mayor and because of our taxes. This stuff makes me really happy to be a taxpayer.
A young woman saying (in French) “mais vraiment ils ont changé à cause du maire” which translates as “but really it changed because of the mayor”

Eh my standards for “woman who is responding to death threats” are considerably lower than “software engineer writing about a vibe-coded project”

The Met Museum (Met Gala) != The Met Opera. I walked the red carpet at the opera gala. Am not a celeb.

A 9% drop over a 3 year span is not great but not a sign of imminent failure ripe for Bluesky to disrupt the space IMO

I can think of a few obvious reasons why r/nfl, r/nba and r/fitness have varied engagement throughout the year

You mean “do professionals post on Reddit about their work” which is a slightly different question, but the answer is yes — for example r/aviation is a mix of amateur enthusiasts and professional pilots. Other topic-focussed subreddits are similar.

By that measure Twitter peaked in 2012. It took 9 years and an acquisition by a comically awful person for Bluesky to even *begin* to nip at its toes.

Matt Brown @mattbrown.dev · 25/09/2026
That happened in 2023, yet 26% of US adults said they used it in 2025 compared to 5% on Bluesky (Pew study). And their revenue (cumulative $2.8B in the last 4 quarters) seems pretty healthy.

But Reddit communities seem to be flourishing and aren't going anywhere. Do they need to be recreated on Bluesky, esp when Reddit exists and is pretty decent at the task? Maybe a better bet would be developing stronger ties with sites like Reddit that could benefit from cross-pollination.

That’s presumably a partial result for September, right? And there’s zero evidence that Bluesky communities is a panacea. And what if fewer terminally-online people is actually sort of good?

I knew a telekinetic who submitted himself to laboratory testing. He disappeared a week later, and the study’s author had his grant revoked.

Those people weren’t big on NFTs tho. FTX sold NFTs because that was a crypto commodity, but SBF never flaunted his bored ape or whatever. It feels like we’re trying to put “people who say dumb things” into a single bucket and there are in fact multiple dumb buckets.

Macklemore Plays Dress-Up And Lands In Hot Water
Macklemore, the rapper who was the peg for numerous pieces on racial appropriation last year, caused a stir this weekend when images of him as what appeared to be a Jewish caricature hit social media.

I get the anger about him not speaking up about Macklemore, but I think it's good that he didn't give that other clout-seeker man more attention

important footnote to “solved in 88 hours”: the effort involved thousands of agents costing (conservatively) millions of dollars directed by a team of mathematicians who were acting on a rumour that a different team had arrived at the same result using LLMs

Ok yes and also lol. I imagine they deliberately cap the RTs per account but maybe not.

Since Fable landed the models are now good enough for any coding you need. The blockers now are cost, and making people actually care about the output vs just boasting about productivity gains. But I’m wary of generalising those gains beyond STEM (stuff that’s very amenable to RL)

I think like 90% of the negative responses are from non-programmers. Makes sense when like 90% of the benefits of the newest models accrue to SWEs

I think there’s very little chance of any court in the US or Western Europe ruling that the current crop of frontier LLMs are violating FOSS licenses. I predict the US and other similarly-inclined countries will pass laws clarifying this in the next 1-2 years.

Even more marketing hype today — a brand new LLM bot swarm message board was discovered. Almost had me fooled into thinking it was real, but then I realised it had to be fake because “fancy autocomplete” cannot do those sorts of things.

I mean, sure but that’s still not remotely comparable to this single case that a lot of people are outraged about and which is likely to be overturned.
