If I could never drive a car again I'd be more than happy. For some journeys I choose to (taking 2 children somewhere that would be a 2 hour round trip). Some, there's no choice (too far to bike & no train/bus). Being in a car brings out the worst in humanity. vive la bicicleta

this bl**dy 1hr trip I don't want to do has forced me to become a car brain. For context, we live right near school and cycle everywhere else with our cargo bike. Now I understand, car drivers want to get out of their car as quickly as possible. I always thought they loved it.

Car drivers hate being in their car (despite how much they say they love it). I've just spent a week commuting 1 hour each way to my children's holiday club. I have never wanted to squeeze onto a roundabout, skip a light or flout the speed limit during my casual outings until...

Human code reviews for new features are becoming less and less important with AI tooling. Code reviews for bug fixes or work on existing features are still vital. YMMV

Yes, I had an EC card until it got replaced with a visa card. I think there's an issue of incentives too. Three banks make no money from sepa payments. Maybe a new digital wallet allows them to take an interchange fee?

SEPA doesn't work at the Lidl checkout. They need something that works as seamlessly as your visa card on google wallet

Eat the Frog — Work Smart and be Remarkable!
Eat the frog is a powerful productivity technique, which suggest that you should do your most difficult and important task (your ugly frog) first thing in the morning, everything after that is much easier. This is incredibly powerful if you are able to make it a habit.

Cut to today, codex is working as I type this skeet 🔥 Workflow: - @steipete.me agents md file as a base - Scope minimal refactors for codex (move navigation, add exit button etc) - Leave it to do it's thing, check and commit manually Eating the ugliest frog was never so easy 🐸

Eating ugly frogs with Codex is insanely fast 🚀. 6 months ago, I had a designer redesign the pricewell.com app shell. I've had a go at implementing the design within my existing framework but never found enough time or motivation to have a proper go at it. Here's my workflow👇🏻

Solopreneurs also have tech debt but they only have to explain the issue to themselves so are a lot more reasonable to reason with.

Matt Reid @matt-reid.co.uk · 08/09/2025
Anyone who tells you they don't have that problem is likely piling more tech debt on top to make a quick change (delaying the pain until later).

Devs love startups because there's so little tech debt, those conversations become someone else's problem in a few years.

Being a developer on a large codebase is a constant battle of explaining why a "little change" is actually a lot more complex than expected. Some musings on tech debt that have been swimming in my mind...

Startup idea 💡 Collab with DHL and other lockers to offer their unused space as storage. Trying to store a bag in a European city is a nightmare even with a startups that offer space in a corner shop (often closed on a Sunday for example).

Developers as Sales Agents B2B sales relies on strong networks. Developers often have these networks from past roles and meetups. Salespeople have ZERO network as they don't come from tech industry. How can we leverage developers' networks for sales?

Has Google's AI suggestions impacted SEO? I feel like I click fewer links after searching a question as often the AI answers my question. I think this can have a good impact on search results as there is no longer a place for larger articles that take ages to answer a simple Q

We were in Málaga for the nationwide blackout yesterday. The response was exemplary. No traffic chaos, police worked through the night at busy crossings. The metro was shut down but buses carried on as normal. The market was going, cash only.

If "C" is a recurring charge and it's taken by card, one option is cancel the card. Your card company will give you a new one and future payments can't be taken with the old one. A bit drastic but maybe a last resort.

I agree. AI means we need to hire fewer devs because we can build faster. But what we build and how the overall system works is still a human task. That's part of the art of software.
