Got my potatoes in the mail today 🥔🥔
A cardboard box with 4 info panels: Raised in living soil; Independently tested; Chemical Free; Field to door harvest. A cardboard box about the size of a shoe with a picture of potatoes underground and cows in the field above. The text says Regenerative Farming. Old World Flavor. The bottom of the box says Nothing to see here. The box is open to reveal…potatoes! Inside the lid are the words Grown in soils that are rested and regenerated between each harvest cycle. The flap includes storage tips.

Walking around Jackson, Wyoming in 2017 on our way to what I didn't know was our new favorite place to eat when in Jackson, Snake River Brewing & passed this structure. Of course I needed to do an internet search to figure it out. Cool place, too: Vertical Harvest. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekNForNeon
https://verticalharvestfarms.com/about-us/
A 4 story urban structure on a downtown sliver of land. It looks like a steel cage with pink and yellow neon lights in many of the floors, with square boxes dotted in the bars here and there that look like a filter or vent. A couple of bikes are locked to bike stands on the edge of the street, along the red painted curb designating it as a no parking area.

The first time I walked into my DMV after moving I was shocked to see an old cigarette machine! And then I looked more closely... #AlphabetChallenge #WeekMForMachinery
A tan and brown old cigarette dispenser with old pull knobs. Signs on the front say "License Plate Nuts & Bolts" and the price point is 50 cents.

The little lock leading from Crooked Lake to Crooked River in northern Michigan. #AlphabetChallenge #WeekMForMachinery
A small lock backed by trees on the shore with grasses off to the side. The water reflects the flag pole and greens, whites, and orangeds of the buildings and gate.

We don't eat a ton of barbecue but when we're back in Austin visiting family and friends we're grateful to have good choices for a barbecue outing and a Mexican food outing.

And always lines waiting. It's one of several very good bbq places in central Texas, all with long lines. And really good bbq and more and more with creative sides (not just beans, pickles, fried okra, sliced bread, & coleslaw). There are some mediocre ones, too, but they don't have long lines.

Texas Barbeque, amiright? #AlphabetChallenge #WeekMForMachines
Against a backdrop of live oak trees and blue skies are various barbeque smokers in various states of rust, one on a homemade trailer, and all with tall vents. I tell you, it smells great.

I'm loving all these #WeekMForMachinery photos! In northern Colorado, it's all about water rights and moving water...and hoping it comes down from the mountains in springtime and down from the sky otherwise. Lots of heartbreaking virga here. #AlphabetChallenge
Some blue and rusted water management equipment at Greeley No. 2 canal. In the background is farmland and a harvester type of equipment. Half of the photo is a blue sky with no clouds.

Looking in through an opening framed by two very large support columns made of tree trunks at a large gathering room with people sitting and standing here and there, and a wood fire glowing in a central pit. The room has man beautiful lamp fixtures hanging from wooden beams down through the 3 stories above.

If you have people in Texas, urge them to check their registration (Oct 5 deadline) & locate their polling place and rules (almost certainly changed). When I lived in TX I spent a lot of time helping people get registered and working in the polling stations. Texas always dicks with (blue) voters.

Texas’ delayed voter applications highlight registration woes
Texas is among eight states that don’t have universal online voter registration. A DPS snafu created a backlog of at least 200,000 applications this week.

#Lights at Bar Z Winery on the edge of Palo Duro Canyon, a beautiful place to camp. The winery allows overnight RVs & we stayed, had some great conversation with owner Monty Dixon, a real character who will tell you he's he’s been making adult beverages since he was 9 years old. #BlueskyArtShow
A large room with a concrete floor and overhead door, lined with shelves of wine casks. Because it's in Texas, there's a typical big ass rolling fan on the floor. There are string lights snaked diagonally across the wood plank ceiling and recessed lights just out of focus enough to make them look a bit like floating, glowing orbs.

That would be fun! The highlight of the trip is staying with Tim & Tony for 10 days in a little village in the Piedmont area. They bought a 3-story, old villa in their mid-70s a few years ago. It has needed a lot of work but it has gardens that used to be public and an operational Catholic church.

#BlueskyArtShow Are these hills above Hāna #undulating?
A photo from a hill above Hāna, Maui overlooking the town and the Pacific Ocean. In the foreground is a short volcanic rock wall with--I'm not sure of the story of these metal posts topped with triangular points. The posts rise in height then fall again. Anyway, everything is green, green, green (it's rainforest, after all). Old, tall Cook Pines can be seen popping up around the town at the shore.

You know, of course, that there is a Pork Festival Queen.
On Main Street, just barely beyond the Pork Festival attractions, is an old movie theater. On the marquee is "Close thru Pork Fest. See you soon". A banner on the street lamp advertises the Pork Festival.

1972: my mother-in-law rode with her grandmother (who'd just turned 100) in front of the Tipton County Pork Festival parade. We're in the area for Sid's 50th HS reunion & saw a billboard for the Festival so away we went. It's a part of American living I don't really know and it was delightful.
