I'm loving all these #WeekMForMachinery photos! In northern Colorado, it's all about water rights and moving water...and hoping it comes down from the mountains in springtime and down from the sky otherwise. Lots of heartbreaking virga here. #AlphabetChallenge

If you have people in Texas, urge them to check their registration (Oct 5 deadline) & locate their polling place and rules (almost certainly changed). When I lived in TX I spent a lot of time helping people get registered and working in the polling stations. Texas always dicks with (blue) voters.

Texas’ delayed voter applications highlight registration woes
Texas is among eight states that don’t have universal online voter registration. A DPS snafu created a backlog of at least 200,000 applications this week.

We had some really pretty fog on the lake at sunrise this morning, which feels like a #Stunday view to me. Just point & click unedited iPhone photos. Thanks for sharing your photos. Streets and stairs and pubs and birds and waterfalls and bays and rivers and forests and animals. They're an anchor
Fog across the lake looking north. Reeds grow out of the water in the foreground and a line of trees, some very distinct pines, lines the edge of the lake. The fog beyond them makes it unclear if the lake goes on or not but it doesn't, in fact, turning east for a few miles before expanding north again.A line of reeds growing out of the lake in the fog looking east toward Graham point. If you squint hard and believe, you can see the trees and some homes or docks on the point.

One thing I love about Bluesky is it feels like we're sharing the fact that we're a cloud of witnesses (used non-religiously because I love the sound of the phrase) to the persistent beauty of the world, in the midst of persistent power trying to anger and oppress us.

Six photos of volunteer day at Mahele Farm this morning. It's summer so there were high school and college students volunteering! And 4 or 5 little kids running around. Hāna, Maui, Hawai'i

A big black and white pig in a portable fence among trees. Everything's so green. There's an orange home depot bucket outside the pen and a blue kiddie pool inside the pen. 140 māmaki leaves I harvested. Some people make tea from the green leaves but I take them home and dry them before making tea. It's a delicious, delicate flavor, and has adaptogenic properties. The leaves are stacked ten to a pile, on the grass. Their stems are pink. The garden beds are crazy happy right now, lots and lots of green growth. From my morning walk. When people say "everything happens for a reason," I assume they are making a quasi-theological statement. In my mind's eye, I see something like this.
Everything happens for a reason, like when a large tree branch (shown lying on the top of a tumbled down lava rock wall) convinces the wall to tumble, and the grass takes its opportunity to grow atop the tumbled rocks. From this angle, you can see the banyan tree in our yard, across from the cemetery beside the house. It is the tree behind the tree in front that's highlighted with lighting. It looks a bit like it would be a green hill.

Morning walk today with a bonus photo from yesterday of Masu (my sunrise walking partner who turns 93 next month).
Sunrise view out through Hāna Bay with waves breaking on the shore. At the left is a large, leafy tree leaning into the photo, shading picnic tables on grass. On the right, Ka'uiki Hill surrounds another little cove with Kaihalulu Beach. The smaller hill farther out in the ocean is called Ka'uiki Head and has an old, functioning lighthouse used in the sugar cane days when Hāna Bay was full of rail cars and ships supporting the industry. The #ColorADay #OrangeSun is breaking through the heavy clouds above the water.I pass this plumeria tree on Uakea Road every day. I don't know how one trunk got wrapped in roots except that in Hawai'i you often see flowers and vines growing in trees. "Uakea" means white mist, and I often hear Hawaiian songs that refer to the "white mist of Hāna", the rain that is so light that you might smell the rain before you notice that it's raining. Masu walking over the debris left by the Kona Low storm on the way to the beach where we walk. I don't know which is more important, the walking or the talk story, but I love this man and am sorry that my time is winding up here for this year.

Yesterday we took our 6 (family) house guests to hike at Wai'anapanapa State Park. Though I wasn't really taking photos, I knew I needed some for #RockinTuesday. Got a little ocean for #ColorADay #BlueTue, as well. A quick photo for more location context. A little more information in the ALT text.
From the black lava cliffs of this section of the King's Highway on Maui you can see the sparkling blue ocean with white waves crashing into rocks. The King's Highway (Alaloa o Pi'ilani) was built about 500 years ago and circumnavigated the entire island of Maui. It was 138 miles long. The sugarcane industry and its modern roadways (as well as time and lack of upkeep) has dismantled much of the trail of blue basalt river stones. After looking at many photos of beautiful mushrooms, I think this is Hericium coralloides. An edible member of the tooth fungi family. A white, yellowing stringy, round fungus sits on black lava rocks.
