Video game composers / indie game studios If you're currently distributing original soundtracks via DistroKid, TuneCore or a similar distributor - please drop me a DM/email if you'd like to learn about working with an actual game soundtrack label and how we can help at @lacedrecords.com

Game music, classical music and Final Fantasy nerds: I had the pleasure of recently interviewing Erased Tapes artist Peter Broderick about his latest project, Ode to Final Fantasy, a tribute album to his favourite FF tracks. Please give it a listen! open.spotify.com/episode/5GfB...

That said, shout-out to the fashion-forward game studios (Fromsoft/Bandai) who are putting out some awesome stuff that genuinely looks fucking great. Elden Ring merch looks and feel great.

Mat Ombler @matombler.bsky.social · 16/09/2026

A lot of the unlicensed stuff seems to be tapping into the growing demand for oversized/boxy T-shirts that I think a lot of studios and publishers aren't doing a good enough job of catering for. I'd love to see more genuinely custom garment sizes for T-shirts and hoodies that are official

Thank you for reporting on it! Game companies really need to do a better job of enforcing IP protection because if I see another sponsored Insta ad for an unlicensed and dog shit Elden Ring T-shirt I'm going to lose my mind.

DON'T SLEEP ON THE ORBITALS SOUNDTRACK. Composed by Falk & Klou, it's one of the best game soundtracks I've heard in years and a must-listen if you're a fan of Joe Hisaishi's Ghibli scores or jazz fusion bands like Casiopea, which heavily inspired it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmTn...

I think it's a great game and most effective at showcasing the value of music in games. My main (personal) gripe with Mixtape is that I felt an emotional disconnect between its '90s setting and the '80s influences it draws from.

010

Mat Ombler @matombler.bsky.social · 12/05/2026

I don't think there's anything wrong with the framing of Mixtape as a coming-of-age tale (because it is) but the devs said they built the game by choosing the music FIRST and then crafting the narrative/experience around those songs (ironically an inverse approach to music supervision)

230

Mat Ombler @matombler.bsky.social · 12/05/2026

Hello, I shared some thoughts on Mixtape in the latest issue of my music and gaming newsletter. As someone who dabbles in music supervision, I viewed Mixtape as a game about the power and purpose of music, rather than a simple coming-of-age story musicexp.substack.com/p/game-music...

Last time I toured was over 10 years ago but we survived on merch sales and I know most bands rely on the same today. This was viable in the UK but near-impossible in Europe given average travel times quadruple.

As our backlogs grow and we struggle to keep up with everything that's out there, it means a lot of amazing game soundtracks can fly under the radar. Incredibly grateful to everyone who took part in this and shared some genuinely amazing words to big up their peers in a very noisy year.
