Friends. I, too wrote off Digger trailers as a pretentious ham-fisted satire about climate change & oligarchy starring actors unaffected by the troubles of the industry. Turns out it might be one of the smartest, funniest, most tragic films about storytelling and I was just being a judgmental bitch.

No one falls in love with writing because it draws a shallow, cursory line from A to B. People fall for a writer's unique perspective. In the way that we flock to artists for their story that can only come from them, we do the same for journalists and critics. Please, seek what's within you!

I raise this point because I loved writing about games for a long time, and I do think it's worthwhile... but I believe it should be respected and taken seriously by its writers, who should write about their experiences instead of trying to compare it to something they think they know and understand

I see so many in games writing claim certain games as Lynchian or that they're trying to be Lynchian, and it is just a complete misunderstanding of David Lynch and his art — and at times the people inspired by him. This kind of comparison feels endemic to games writing at this point. It's lazy.

Control's basic story was endearing. Jesse has heart! Her life was ruined by a corporation, she fights back, and then she's in charge and instead of maintaining the status quo, she strives for change. Of course, I do think how it's told is more important to Remedy stories than what is actually told.

As for the Lynch comparisons, they're obviously inspired by him, but the idea that they're riding his coattails is silly? Obvious Twin Peaks analogs in Alan Wake, but a lot of Stephen King in there, too. Just like Control has with House of Leaves, Southern Reach, and New Weird in general.

Man, that's a shame. Alan Wake 1 is a stand-out mechanically for me from that era. The "whurrrrrr" of the flashlight peeling the darkness as the dudes creep towards you, then the release of tension that the POP provides, knowing you can fight back. Still revisit it to this day!

At this point, I don't think I'll ever work again. The number of times a job is US-only, too entry level for my experience, or even just a scam (has happened a couple times this year). I'm bummed. This is strange because the original story absolutely shows us why Scrooge is such a cold and miserable character — and you have compassion for him because his reasons are understandable. The power in that story is that he sees how his actions have and will affect others and changes his ways.

If you're looking for a good laugh and cry, might I suggest THE SHEEP DETECTIVES. I'm not afraid to admit how many times I cried. All of the animals are incredibly delightful and will have a firm grip of your heart strings by the end of the first act. I'm giving my dog an extra tight hug after this.

A complete mastery of what only cinema can do. Blue Heron is full of heart yet heartbreaking at the same time. A movie with as happy of an ending as life allows sometimes. I loved it. Honestly, I think it's a perfect movie. If you love cinema and story, you owe it to yourself to watch Blue Heron.

Carolina Caroline is a great new take on the Bonnie-and-Clyde story. Samara Weaving and Kyle Gallner ooze chemistry, and as the stakes rise, your heart rate does too. The cinematography is phenomenal, with colours and lighting that'll make you think it was shot on film. Adam Rehmeier has the juice.
