Only four reviews were examined, and they were not systematically selected, so this is not an estimate of reproducibility across the field. Still, the challenge offers useful lessons for making preclinical systematic reviews more transparent and replicable. Read the preprint here: osf.io/8y4pn

Access was another issue: not all raw quantitative data were available, and none of the original reviews shared their analysis code. Documenting decisions and sharing the full analytical workflow could make future reviews easier to verify and reuse.

Teams also found differences in data processing, meta-analysis and risk-of-bias judgments. Missing or ambiguous methodological details often meant that replicators had to make their own decisions.

But replicating the review process was much harder. None of the three full replications identified exactly the same set of included studies as the original review.

The main conclusions were largely reproduced. All reported summary estimates pointed in the same direction as the originals, and statistical significance was retained for all but one outcome.

Five teams attempted direct replications of four systematic reviews. Three teams replicated the full review process, while two focused on specific steps: meta-analysis or risk-of-bias assessment.

Excited to share our new preprint on bioRxiv! We examined how repeated ketamine exposure affects social and locomotor behavior in adult zebrafish. Results show acute schizophrenia-like phenotypes, but no evidence of sensitization or sustained effects.
