The new manhwa season just started with the Civilization arc and I'm already VERY interested in what they're doing here. They've taken an early gag about goblins and somehow turned it into what's already starting to be a compelling story about the species as a whole. Like LOOK AT THIS.

Maybe it's because I got it for dirt cheap, but Wild Hearts is honestly a pretty solid Monster Hunter clone. It doesn't quite have the same sauce as the series it's clearly inspired by, but the ideas it does have DO land most of the time. I highly recommend people give it another shot.

For those that don't know, Platinum launched with a little statue that I still have to this day and it is just SO cool looking. It's not very big, reaching like 2 inches tall, but teen me got this and realized "Oh man, I can get things WITH my games?" and it kinda unlocked a sickness in me.

Finally in '09 I received a copy of Pokemon Platinum from my mom. This is notable for me because it both got me back into Pokemon after feeling gross getting Diamond and Pearl, but also was the game that hooked me on getting collector's editions with extra little bonus items.

To get off the heavy topic from last year, '08 was notable for me because this was the first time I owned my own console, rather than having a shared system in the living room for us all to use. I saved up money for an Xbox 360 and bought Fable II not long after.

'07 is a very bittersweet year for me, and this one might need a thread to really get into it. The game(s) of this year for me are Pokemon Diamond and Pearl, which I received both of for my birthday from my dad. This was also unfortunately the first time I suspected my dad of trying to buy my love.

Getting back to it, '06 was the year of Twilight Princess. This game made a mark on me because it was both the first Wii game I owned (a gift from my dad to go with buying the Wii for the family) and it was actually the first Zelda game I beat by myself.

'05 had one clearly big game that I feel a lot of people would consider big in their lives as well & that's Mario Kart DS. That game is just SO good for its time with the whole challenge level thing it had going on, I loved it. It's also the only game my sisters and I consistently played together.

I might be cheating for '04, because I can't remember if we bought Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door during its launch year. I'm gonna pretend like I did though! This game was one of the only Gamecube games we had and my sisters and I played the HELL out of it.

2003 however was pretty big for me in comparison. I got Knights of the Old Republic this year as a birthday gift I believe, and believe it or not it's what got me into Star Wars. I never cared about the movies as a kid, but this game was SO COOL to pre-teen me. Highly recommend even to this day.

2002 is a bit of a minor year for me, but Jet Set Radio Future released this year as a launch title for the original Xbox and while it didn't affect me much as a kid looking back on it I can tell it's shaped my current taste in music and art direction for games. Can't wait for the new game incoming.

Moving onto 2001 my game of choice is Tony Hawk Pro Skater 3 on PS1. My first ever console game that was my own, and while it's not my personal favorite in the series it's notable to me because it started shaping the kinds of music I liked to listen to for the first decade and a half of my life.

Everybody should be taking advantage of the summer sale to grab the @colorgrave.bsky.social collection. At the very least grab Prodigal, Curse Crackers, and Veritus and play them in order. I literally cannot say enough how much I love the world building in and between these games.

You might be surprised to hear but I got an early copy of Mina & finished it on Tuesday. I waited until today to mention it due to wanting to wait for the actual launch date to talk about it. This game was so fun & the aesthetic is just on point. Honestly it was so good I don't have a ton to say.

Went through and swept all of the content I didn't get to in Veritus in the playthrough I did today. Got all the achievements too! (Fucking cards man). The ending is still super good & the lore bits are still so satisfying if you've been paying attention to the dialogue and books through all games.

I ended up playing through Prodigal again today because they updated the game AGAIN with a bunch of new stuff like a new dungeon & boss. The game is super simple on the surface but once you start paying attention to the world building, dialogue, & little lore bits your brain will go into overdrive.

I just wish there was a physical for it. This isn't a bad price for them since they originally sold for the same price as both of them now combined, so there's not much to complain about here other than about the US not getting the collector's items. It's still a code in a box either way though.

Fourth game of the year is now done, and it's Octopath Traveler II. This was more of me finishing the game since I started it back when it launched, but never got motivated enough to beat it. I'd definitely say this surpasses the original game by a mile, and if you had to pick one I'd say play this.

Obviously the third game I beat is Dragon Quest II HD-2D Remake. I didn't finish the post-game because the grind got to be too much but playing this last definitely paid off and ESPECIALLY paid off having played [SPOILER] before this trilogy. Legit the best story & characters of the Erdrick Trilogy.

Honestly it might be a fun video topic idea considering the whole weird limbo the series has been seemingly stuck in. I'm already done with my second game this year and obviously it's Dragon Quest I HD-2D Remake. The improvements to the characters and story are obvious compared to the NES/Famicom original, and I thought that it made having a single character work for the most part. Also yes DQ2 is next on the list.

The first game I completed this year is Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake. I thought it was great but towards the end the constant usage of insta-kill moves by some enemies was getting on my fucking nerves. I'm working through the other two HD-2D remakes now as well and I'm excited to see how DQ2 is.

Seriously though I love all the art they'd put into old strategy guides. I still think the best one I have is for Rogue Galaxy. The game has such interesting style and design (pretty common for Level-5 even these days) and the guide goes pretty far to match it beat for beat on a lot of pages.

We've finished KOTOR 2 which means the cutoff for voting for what class I play in Star Wars: The Old Republic has arrived. The winning class is: The Jedi Consular! I made my character on stream tonight and we'll be using this guy for the entire story playthrough starting New Years at the latest.

One thing I AM concerned about with Control Resonant is how they'll take their Brutalism/Surrealism blended art style outside of the Oldest House setting and into the entire city of Manhattan. It could definitely work, but it's going to be a fine line they likely need to walk.
