Defaulting a minor to SFW speech with time /feature limits isn't unreasonable but, minors should be able to VOLUNTEER parental/guardian controls (provide a parent email) in order to bypass limits: especially with a still TOO narrow definition of SoMe. @evangreer.bsky.social @fightforthefuture.org

Step in the right direction for privacy but I hope this is a working draft. Some genuine concerns that could destroy practical lives. Certain things can't be left vague like compliance with ADA and parental override. A site should let minors disclose a guardian voluntarily to override time limits.

We're working on one. "Hard" is subjective. Our solution will be a foss proof of concept. I'd argue that some things don't come to light because it's not easily capitalized. Also, nobody really wants gating to happen. But if they're going to force it, unsafely, it's better to do it safely.

Politicians and Corporations will tell you it has to be done their way as their way gives them control, and pays them a kickback. Surveillance capitalism is weaponized transparency. As Zuboff describes, an epistemic coup that produces epistemic inequality. It's not compatible with democracy.

There are ways to handle content classification and compartmentalization that's constitutional, private, no logs, and decentralized without absurd blockchain or giving your identity to anyone. There are also ways to filter your web experience, voluntarily, or for your kids, at the browser level. 👇🏽

While minors don't have agency, they have the same constitutionally protected rights. The Supreme Court has held that students do not "shed their constitutional rights to freedom of speech or expression at the schoolhouse gate." Minors also retain their rights to privacy (managed by parents) >9a

Many adults would like to have the option of disabling or limiting harmful features and filtering content as well. The answer is stronger privacy and data sovereignty, education, and user-end controls and filters. Don't mandate what we can and cannot read, see, or say. Book bans aren't liberation

We strongly support regulating large corps that enable harms. Predatory algorithms, anti-consumerism, feed stuffing, disinformation, deceit, FOMO, echo-chambers, misclassified and poorly moderated content are what's really "out of control" >>> not teenagers being naturally curious. It'll backfire.

Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 03/05/2026
We don't support age-verification because (a) it doesn't work, and always gets hacked (b) it enables establishing surveillance infrastructure (c) we assert the natural rights of everyone are entitlements, regardless of age, gender, etc. and should be protected by those we trust that took an Oath to.

We agree with regulating companies harmful algorithms, poor content classification, and exploitative marketing tactics. But we defend the constitutional rights of everyone, regardless of age. Liberal should mean pro-liberty. Over-reach is not synonymous with that. We support other, safer, methods.

Employees at Flock have been watching your kids
facebook.com
148K views · 2.2K reactions | Residents of an Atlanta suburb have been rocked by the revelation that sales employees at Flock have been accessing sensitive cameras in the town to demonstrate the company’s surveillance technology to police departments around the country. The cameras accessed have included surveillance tech in a children’s gymnastics room, a playground, a school, a Jewish community center, and a pool. Flock has pushed back against this characterization on social media, in a blog post, at city council meetings, and in a statement to 404 Media: “The city of Dunwoody is one city in our demo partner program,” a Flock spokesperson told 404 Media. “The cities involved in this program have authorized select Flock employees to demonstrate new products and features as we develop them in partnership with the city. Moreover, select engineers can access accounts with customer permission to debug or fix any issues that may arise. No one is spying on children in parks, as the substack incorrectly asserts.” For nearly three hours earlier this month, resident after resident questioned the Dunwoody City Council about its relationship with Flock, which is extremely close. Flock has repeatedly championed its work in Dunwoody, and Dunwoody has a ”real time crime center“ that features a giant wall of Flock cameras and is ”powered by Flock Safety.“ At the city council meeting, the residents universally explained to their elected officials that they did not want their tax money funding surveillance technology that has been used to collaborate with Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, to look for a woman who had an abortion, has been abused by police officers to stalk women and surveil protests, has suffered from numerous security and privacy scandals, and was now using their city as, at best, a live surveillance sales demonstration and, at worst, was surveilling the city’s children. REMONSTRANCE TO THE MASSACHUSETTS GENERAL COURT Regarding H.5366 Social Media Regulations
011
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
The remonstrance can be cited in later court cases as evidence that the legislature was put on notice of constitutional and legal defects before passing the law. It also becomes part of the legislative history that judges consult when interpreting the law.
010
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Call the House Clerk's office one week after delivery to confirm that the remonstrance has been received and referred. Ask which committee received it and if it has been assigned a docket number. That number can be used to track the remonstrance on the legislature's website at malegislature.gov.
110
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Request Entry into the Journal. When you deliver the remonstrance, explicitly request that it be entered into the official journal of the House and the Senate. Under legislative rules, petitions and remonstrances presented to the Clerk are referred to committee and become part of public record.
110
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Present your remonstrance to the Office of the Clerk of the House of Representatives. The Clerk will stamp it as received and assign it a document number. Ask for a stamped copy for your records. Repeat the process with the Office of the Clerk of the Senate. Ask for a stamped copy.
110
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Make at least two copies one for the House Clerk and one for the Senate Clerk. Keep an additional copy for your records. If the document is long, bind it simply with a paper clip. Do not put it in a folder, binder or staple it.
110
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
Include a demand that the legislation be rejected or repealed, signatures of Massachusetts residents, and a date. Digital signatures such as a petition can be attached but at least several hundred physical signatures are stronger. Print the remonstrance with signatures.
110
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
It must be a professional and formal document addressed to the Massachusetts House of Representatives and Senate. Include a clear statement that you are remonstrating against H.5366, the Governor's proposal, and similar legislation. Cite a list of specific constitutional and legal violations.
121
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
A remonstrance also strengthens future lawsuits. If the legislature passes H.5366 after receiving a remonstrance detailing its constitutional violations, a court may infer they acted with deliberate knowledge. A remonstrance cannot stop a law from passing. It is best used early before a final vote
121
Massachusetts Digital Action Collective @massdac.bsky.social · 24/04/2026
I have a RARE useful tool but you must act fast. A remonstrance is a formal written protest addressed to a governing body. It states specific objections and demands action. Remonstrances helped abolitionists fight slavery. It creates a permanent public record that legislators cannot ignore.
