Stopping Ebola in the DRC will take more than one action. WHN’s new guideline outlines five interconnected priorities: lowering conflict barriers, putting community-based monitoring first, limiting movement between communities, getting essential resources to the ground, and (...)

WHN logo: “whn.global.” Top right: “World Health Network — Science for a safer, healthier world.” Large headline: “Stopping Ebola requires action on five fronts.” Yellow heading: “1. Lower the conflict barrier.” Text: “Violence fuels Ebola and blocks the response. But stopping the outbreak does not require ending the wider conflict first. Progress can be made zone by zone, creating space for communities to protect their own.” Yellow heading: “2. Put community monitoring first.” Text: “Find cases where they are, by monitoring communities directly. This means door-to-door monitoring: regular checks for fever and other symptoms across affected communities, so that cases are found early and isolated fast.” Bottom labels: “WHN Science Communications” and “Ebola in the DRC.”World Health Network graphic on a dark gray background. Get resources to the ground.” Text: “Monitoring and protection require essential supplies: thermometers, protective equipment, and resources to safely isolate and care for people with early symptoms.” Yellow heading: “5. Build trust and deliver clear information.” Text: “Disinformation and distrust undermine the response. Communities need clear, trusted information on how Ebola spreads and how to stay safe.” Bottom labels: “WHN Science Communications” and “Ebola in the DRC.”World Health Network graphic on a dark gray background. The reason is that this outbreak is caused by the Bundibugyo strain, for which no vaccine has yet been approved. Doses have recently been allocated to the DRC to protect health and response workers and to conduct trials toward approval, a welcome step for those most exposed but not a population-wide answer. Work toward a proven vaccine deserves attention and support for the institutions engaged in developing it, but the response taking place now cannot wait.” URL: “whn.global/scientific/stopping-ebola-in-the-drc”.

In addition to the new App Version I also added a new data explorer tool to the indoorco2map.com website at indoorco2map.com/analysis.html . As there are 25000 total measurement time series now (20000 for buildings and 5000 for transit) at least some subsets have decent sample size.
A screenshot of the new data explorer website with a boxplot showing the 20 most measured types of locations sorted by median CO2-levels in descending order. worst 5 are: Doctors at 945ppm, supermarkets at 895ppm, theatres at 864, cinemas at 766ppm and chemists at 749ppm. best 5 are bakerys at 672ppm, furniture shops at 648ppm, clothes shops at 633ppm, fast food stores at 630ppm and do-it-yourself shops (hardware stores) at 576ppm

„Olympische Winterspiele ’26 in Italien: Teams halten freiwillig an COVID-Schutzmaßnahmen fest.“

Oben links steht „whn.global“.

“Isn’t the pandemic over?” “Aren’t you done with masks yet?” “But you’re not high-risk!” This Q&A provides evidence-based responses to these and other common objections, offering insight into why we still mask, filter the air and open windows—knowledge we’ve gained and continue to put into practice
WHN graphic with a light background and faint photo of a white respirator. whn.global logo at top left. Pink subtitle: “Yes, We Continue Wearing Masks — Here’s Why: Common Questions Answered.”
Large headline: “If you’re wearing a mask, why should I?”
Body text: “Two-way masking protects everyone better than one-way masking for one simple reason: source control. Your mask reduces what you exhale (source control) and what you inhale (personal protection). Because many infections spread silently and not everyone can mask all the time, masking together sharply lowers risk, for you and for the people around you.”
Footer line: “The World Health Network is a network devoted to global compassion—working together to inspire collective action through science for a safer, healthier world.”Same WHN layout and respirator background. Pink subtitle: “Yes, We Continue Wearing Masks — Here’s Why: Common Questions Answered.”
Large headline: “Won’t constant masking weaken your immunity?”
Answer in bold text: “No. Masks don’t block all microbes, and our immune systems still get plenty of stimulation from daily life.”
Footer with WHN mission sentence.Same WHN layout and respirator background. Pink subtitle: “Yes, We Continue Wearing Masks — Here’s Why: Common Questions Answered.”
Large headline: “I thought masks don’t work?”
Body text: “They do, but only when used correctly, and not all ‘masks’ are created equal. The physics is clear: well-fitted respirators (N95/FFP2 or better) cut what you breathe out and what you breathe in.
Confusion often comes from studies that used loose surgical/medical masks, allowed people to take masks off while exposed, or mixed very different mask types and fits, conditions that blur the true benefit.”
Footer with WHN mission sentence.Same WHN layout and respirator background. Pink subtitle: “Yes, We Continue Wearing Masks — Here’s Why: Common Questions Answered.”
Large headline: “I think kids need to ‘train’ their immune systems. Aren’t you preventing that?”
Body text: “A child’s immune system doesn’t need to encounter dangerous pathogens to develop. Everyday exposure to common microbes in the environment is enough ‘training.’”

"Are you going to wear a mask forever?" Masks are a tool. When indoor air is clean & transmission is low, the need decreases. But right now? Many places lack good ventilation, and COVID-19 is year-round. A well-fitted mask indoors is a no-brainer. Learn more: whn.global/yes-we-conti... #Masking
A digital graphic with a white background and a "WHY MASK?" header in a blue button at the top. In the top-left corner, there are five colored dots (pink, green, light green, blue, and dark blue). The whn.global logo is in the top-right corner.

The main text is large, bold, and black, except for "FOREVER", which is in red. The text is in quotation marks and reads:

"DETAILED EXPLANATION"

The main text is black and reads:

"As our understanding of airborne transmission grows, we see that clean indoor air—via ventilation and filtration—makes a huge difference in whether masks are needed. If rooms are well-ventilated or have effective air filtration systems, the need for continuous masking decreases because the overall prevalence of airborne pathogens decreases."
"Right now, many indoor environments still lack adequate ventilation and filtration, and testing before gatherings isn’t a widespread norm. Under these conditions, masking is a straightforward way to reduce risk."A digital graphic with a white background and a "WHY MASK?" header in a blue button at the top. In the top-left corner, there are five colored dots (pink, green, light green, blue, and dark blue). The whn.global logo is in the top-right corner.

Below the header, there is a red rounded rectangular banner with white text that reads:
"DETAILED EXPLANATION (CONT’D.)"

The main text is black and reads:

"Respiratory aerosols linger in a room for hours, and it’s only a matter of time before other people breathe them in. COVID-19 doesn’t just follow 'flu season' patterns; it’s a year-round concern."
"We hope for future innovations—like faster, more accessible tests, or standard clean-air practices—that might make routine masking less necessary. But until then, wearing a well-fitted mask indoors is a no-brainer in many situations."

Wearing a mask is important for everyone, not just those at high risk. Masks help prevent the spread of viruses, protecting not only your health but also the community. This includes vulnerable individuals you may unknowingly infect.
A digital graphic with a white background displaying bold black and red text that reads:
“BUT YOU’RE NOT HIGH-RISK, SO WHY WEAR A MASK?”

The phrase "HIGH-RISK" is emphasized in red, while the rest of the text is in black. At the top of the image, there is a blue button labeled "WHY MASK?", and the whn.global logo appears in the upper right corner.

Warum tragen viele weiterhin Masken?

Below, a red button with white text reads "DETAILED EXPLANATION." The text below says:
In May 2023, the WHO announced that COVID-19 was no longer a “Public Health Emergency of International Concern,” which shifted the global response level. However, the WHO has repeatedly cautioned not to speak of COVID-19 in the past tense.
New variants continue to emerge, and the virus is still causing significant illness and death around the world, even if hospitalizations aren’t at the peak they were before.
Deciding whether to wear a well-fitted mask indoors is about limiting the spread of a virus that hasn’t vanished. Just because the emergency has passed doesn’t mean the risk is gone.
