In exchange for dog watching, I’ve been paid in takeout from the Korean place in the bowling alley in Fairbanks. Even straight out of the container, having ridden 4.5 hours in the back of a pickup, it is delicious. I can’t wait to get this heated up and in my belly 🤤

Did the swans wake me up at 4 am or was I already awake? Don’t know. Looked out the window but didn’t see them. Stars were reflecting in the pond. It was beautiful. I fell back asleep easily 💕

Trying to wait patiently for the clouds and fog to lift so I can see how far down the mountains the snow has come. If there’s any on Willow Mountain (~3200 feet, we’re at about 1235), winter is at the doorstep.

My favorite Alaska purchase so far has been the log splitter. Its name is Helen, and together she and I plow mightily through whatever bucked up wood my husband throws our way. I love the big wood. I love the small wood. I love whatever wood she helps me split 💕

Hubs still receives calls on an ad he placed on Alaska’s List many, many years ago and can’t remove/have removed. I laugh a little every time someone calls about the dog he posted way back when, but I’m also irritated. I guess AL used to be useful, but I would never, ever, ever buy or sell from it.

When the swans took off yesterday afternoon, one banked left while the other continued straight. The one that went straight soon turned to follow the other over towards Willow Lake and the Richardson 💕

The sheer joy of finding a pair of jeans that comfortably fits cannot be overstated. I’d been elastic-waistband-only since before covid, but I’m now the proud owner of two (two!) pairs of jeans I could wear and wear and wear. Hallelujah 💕

So was the off-sales shop at Fred Meyer’s where I bought a mystery box of Denali Brewing beers that was full of tastiness. There’s a QR code on the box that told me what beers should have been inside, but what I got was completely different. I like the idea of a mystery box of beers though 💕

I thought yesterday’s drive to Valdez was spectacular, but today’s journey to Palmer was height saturated color symphony. Coming through Eureka was especially beautiful, mostly making having to come in just for roofing screws tolerable 🧡

Drove down to Valdez to check out the Rarified Light photography exhibit at the museum. The drive was so beautiful, I mean, it always is but the fall colors put on such a good show…such a good show. I love this time of year 💛

Yesterday for the drive home we really could have done with a Dairy Queen malt, but since the DQ in Palmer is closed we hit the McDonald’s drive thru instead. I was so delighted to see posters for their Hello Kitty x Godzilla Happy Meal toys that my husband bought me a toy to go with my sundae 💕

It’s almost jacket-in-the-outhouse weather. Sigh. The tomatoes aren’t super happy this morning and my peppers are too tiny to pick yet. I did, however, see the nighttime moon for the first time in months. I suppose I’ll be able to see stars soon 🥶✨💕 (there needs to be an aurora emoji)

On a second look, the circumferences are closer than I initially thought, but the franc looks a little thicker. Also, Francs are magnetic; US quarters are not. Part of me is very much, Yay! A foreign coin! Another part of me grumps over paying the bank for US coin and receiving something different.

In the second roll of quarters, there was a French franc hiding, which is weird because the circumference is totally different than a quarter’s. I’ve never gotten a franc in a roll of quarters before

My 77-year-old neighbor has to do a turn-and-burn to Anchorage today because hotel rooms are too expensive this time of year. It’s a problem for all of us, especially when medical stuff requires overnight stays. She’s going to have to do 9+ hours of driving on top of the things she needs to get done
