I never do lino cuts but I’m doing lino cuts this year for holiday cards. It’s early yet so I might do a third card, too. I truly enjoy sending sending cards out at Christmas time. I even bought stamps prior to the last price hike in preparation 💚
Two holiday cards printed from linoleum cuts. The card on the left is a cabin against the night sky and the card on the right is a Christmas tree on a green background.

I had to print it out a little. Snow is accumulating. As soon as I clean up, I’m putting my kicking it pants on and making tea. ❄️

When the swans took off yesterday afternoon, one banked left while the other continued straight. The one that went straight soon turned to follow the other over towards Willow Lake and the Richardson 💕

Today’s print was going to be a congratulatory note for my sister, but after I printed the corners, I heard the news and switched tack. I might do another layer, I might not. Dolly, you will be missed.

My husband preferred this shot of ‘em. (Thanks to the University of Nevada, Reno swans of the ‘90s, I will always think swan pairs are named Sigmund and Olivia 💕)

Oh how I love the trumpeter swans. I happened to have my camera out while I was drinking coffee this morning, and good thing too (Kenny Lake, Alaska) 💕 #alaskasky

Going through some totes to weed out stuff and found this pic, the border crossing into Hyder, Alaska, circa November 1978. Pretty sure the dog on the right is Baranof 💕

Since 2019, I’ve done a near yearly photographic series on the flowers in my yard. I went out and photographed a little this morning. Flowers make me damned happy, flowers in Alaska especially so 💕 This year’s series so far can be viewed here: www.bluemashstudio.com/photography/...

Living in a dry, off-grid cabin can be challenging. I look forward to the day we have a water tank and no longer have to fill a small army of aquatainers every week 💕

My husband was in front of me so I didn’t immediately see the eagle. Once I did, I said a quick thanks to the eagle gods for the magic of being close and a prayer that a nest wasn’t nearby (because I in no way want to have to react to a protective eagle) 🦅💕

I have been doing an annual photographic series of flowers in my yard since 2019 (I think). Flowers aren’t yet blooming in Kenny Lake so this year I’m working with the discarded cut flowers that Mike has given, flowers that have been sitting outside in snow and subzero temps for months 💕

My little sprouting pepper is giving out free love 💚 This year is the first time I’m growing from seed, and I am incredibly excited to see sprouts sprouting. I bought my seeds from Foundroot in Haines, and fingers are crossed for full-fledged peppers in a few months. It all starts with love 💚

This also came across my FB feed—snow totals going back to 2001-2002 for Stewart, BC (which would give a rough estimate for what Hyder, AK received). Sometimes they get a lot of snow for being at sea level 💕

15.7 feet of snow so far this season for Stewart, BC. Presumably Hyder is right around the same. Not record-breaking, but still a fair amount to shovel.

We’re sitting at -21F and I’m very much ready for a non-winter color palette. I can’t wait for the swans to return and the muskrats to come out and to feel the sun warm my skin. Until then, I’ll just continue to enjoy the stillness and quiet and be thankful for the growing daylight hours 💕

This morning has us at -40 degrees; since I can’t stay in bed forever, I’m printing to keep warm. These will go in the shop eventually. In the meantime, I’m at least not freezing (but I haven’t gone out to the unheated outhouse yet, so freezing is likely coming) 🥶🙃💕 #letterpress #alaska

Until I was 30, I was incredibly nearsighted. Without glasses or contacts, everything around me was just big, fuzzy blobs; sometimes I miss that lack of definition. My 𝘶𝘯𝘰𝘣𝘴𝘤𝘶𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘈𝘭𝘢𝘴𝘬𝘢 series is a bit of a throwback to how I used to see the world. This image is from the other night 💕

This was always going to happen: messy, exuberant printing on darkroom-printed medium-format film images. Let love rule, in my little corner of Alaska and everywhere 💕 Photo taken in 2019 (Reno, Nevada), printed in 2020 (Reno, Nevada), and printed on in 2026 (Kenny Lake, Alaska). #letterpress

When the husband asks me to make him a sign 🤣 I’m going to try out the sample 3-pack of yupo paper for the final prints, which excites me because I haven’t been sure how to use it. It’s a plastic paper that will hopefully hold up outside in sun, rain, snow, and fifty below 💕 #letterpress #alaska

My latest Stewart, BC postcard acquisition is a good one because it shows a wooden bridge over Rainey Creek (now it’s asphalt with a culvert, but in the same spot) and a 20 mph sign from Canada’s pre-metric times. This view is coming from the Hyder, AK side 💕
A real photo postcard looking towards the Stewart, British Columbia, Canada, main street from a wooden bridge crossing Rainey Creek. Above the bridge hangs a sign that says, Stewart, 20 miles per hour. To the photographers back, the road continues 3 kilometers to Hyder, Alaska.

So far, my 2026 printing has been revolving around love (I’m only five prints in, so that could change). Also, I’m using an out-of-the-package, untrimmed-by-me, letter-size, index-card-weight paper that I’m really digging 💕 #letterpress

I told my mom that my husband thinks she’s a secret survivalist and she texted me back saying that one of the influencing events for that was sewing doggie booties for the 1974 Iditarod 💕 (She’s not secret about it; she is a woman who likes to be full-on prepared for emergencies and disasters 💕)

Working on my first print of the year. The third layer is yet to be determined. My goal for 2026? Be the love I wish to see (and be). I’m using new paper this year and a different size. I’ve gone from 6x8” to 8.5x11”. We’ll see how it goes. Letterpress journaling in Alaska continues💕 #letterpress

Planes still flew 💕 I was super surprised we were able to fly into Juneau yesterday. I’m glad for the snow, though. It’s such a reprieve from the way-below-zero weather we’ve been having in Kenny Lake. What does one do on a snowy Sunday in Juneau? Hopefully it includes making snow angels 💕

When we went to get water Sunday, the community well wasn’t working (it was -40F & dark, and we were completely out of water). After a few phone calls & 30 mins sitting in an unheated truck, we were able to get water at the community hall. There’s no ETA when the well will be up again. #letterpress
