Resistance doesn’t require experience, permission, or a particular kind of person. If you feel called to resist but question your own impact, read @katiephang.bsky.social's reflection on Josephine Baker. We all have our own tools and voice. History is shaped by people who choose to use theirs.

Since assuming office, President Trump has been radically redefining who the United States is and how it should be governed. This has never been described with greater clarity than in this morning’s essay from @hcrichardson.bsky.social. Take five minutes to read her wisdom.

What a whirlwind: This week I’m recording “Sleep with the Angels,” an anthology of my speeches from 1992-93. There are lessons and strength to be claimed in our history. In returning to these moments, I wish to honor our shared past and carry it into the now — to create a more hopeful future. ❤️

We are not used to seeing so much distress; we are not meant to. But we must bear witness. Do not let them tell us what we see with our own eyes isn’t true. Keep going. A reckoning is coming and we need to be there to witness that too.

In my life I’ve seen the cruelty, prejudice, and hate that people are capable of. I’m sorry that this generation has to experience it in their streets and on their phones, day after day. Be there for one another. We will get through this together.

Sending out thoughts of love today. To those protesting in the streets, to those donating or participating in mutual aid, and to those who are caring for children, family members, or themselves, just taking it one day at a time. I see you and I love you.

No one expects to become part of history. But we are here. The time we're living in will be written about, studied, and questioned. What we choose to do, or not do, will shape how it is remembered. When this moment is read about by your children or grandchildren — what will your actions say?

The Walk for Peace is an act of love, perseverance, & hope. The monks remind us that we don’t walk alone in our pursuit of good. At times all we can do is put one foot in front of the other — thank you for showing us that this too is an act of courage. We will walk on & fight for peace with love.

To focus on the light when it feels like we’ve reached the depths of the new Dark Ages is not easy. But finding the light in people, in nature, or in ourselves, is to defy the darkness — to sustain us and remember why we keep speaking, resisting, and caring.

I’m honored to have @pelosi.house.gov's generous words grace the cover of “Uneasy Silence,” a book born of hope, art, & the belief we can all make a difference. Madam Speaker’s decades of public service & tireless commitment to equality have inspired me & so many others to keep using our voices.
The back of Mary Fisher's book, "Uneasy Silence" displays a quote from Nancy Pelosi that reads: “Mary Fisher is a woman of extraordinary courage and hope, inspiring generations of Americans from her groundbreaking speech as a person with AIDS to the 1992 Republican National Convention to her decades of work helping others with AIDS live openly and with dignity.

Mary Fisher has broken the Uneasy Silence that too many people with AIDS have had to bear. Because of Mary’s example, millions of AIDS/HIV patients are living fearlessly with compassion and activism in the face of discrimination and despair. Reading her inspiring words teaches all of us that each of us can make a difference.” -Nancy Pelosi, former Speaker of the House of Representatives

The cover is black with white text and also includes a quote that reads, “Mary Fisher has inspired millions of people with the quiet power of her art and her words. In Uneasy Silence, she does it again, bearing eloquent witness to cries for justice and compassion.” -Darren Walker, President, the Ford Foundation

Below these quotes is a headshot of Mary, smiling at the camera with her arms crossed, and her bio, which is only partially visible from the cropping of the photo.
