Damn, you have rumbled me by pointing out I have never, ever criticised the actions of any other political leader.🤦🏻‍♂️

It was about "an" internal vote, not "any" internal vote. Specifically, "an" internal vote that caused predictable damage. People who actually read what I had written wouldn't need forgiving.

It clearly was about a vote which would cause *predictable damage*. If you think that means I'd feel the same about an uncontentious internal vote then this exchange may well be never-ending. It is probably best to let people read it so far and come to their own conclusions.

This is not about any internal vote, as was clear in my original post.

This is utterly hilarious. Kemi Badenoch cocked up a spreadsheet calculation and doubled the cost of Net Zero. Now she knows it is £500 billion pounds cheaper than she thought, surely the only logical response is a U-turn? www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Tories overstate net zero cost by nearly £500bn in apparent spreadsheet error
Exclusive: Badenoch’s flagship conference policy document cites £957bn estimate, twice the total in climate advisers’ data

Any effort that didn't include a speech and a vote was inadequate. You can't boast your party policy process democratic and then not bother to take part in that bit.

I counted how many speeches he made in the debate on the motion and how many votes he cast.

Given the predictable damage the conference decision has done to the party, I think it is fair to say Polanski should have put a great deal more effort into persuading members in an attempt to head this off. That doesn't take and breaking of the rules.

Badenoch's plan to scrap building standards to make homes cheap to heat while energy prices spike through the roof is what Sir Humphrey used to call "courageous." Scrapping the Climate Change Act just after the hottest summer on record and as a massive El Nino event brews up is even worse.

Reform's boast they "didn't take any money" from people they describe as "Climate Activists" bent on "entrapping" them is incredibly thin. You'd think they'd have clocked such people were never actually going to give it to them. The question they should be asked is did they ever refuse it?

I've just worked it out. Despite some decent presenters, Newsnight has been a massive let down since they cut any actual reporting. Would be nice to think this would be the kick up the arse it should be, but I'm not holding my breath.

Wonder where we would be now if Government had listened to all those calls to back UK investment and research into cleaner alternatives? We could be making our own electric cars rather than buying Chinese ones while European makers try to slow progress. (See also batteries, solar panels etc etc)

Strange behaviour from a would-be PM who backed Net Zero. Will she purge herself?

Now is a good time to remind those worried about overheated homes, closed schools, boiling hospitals and infrastructure that is can barely cope that voting for people who have spent their lives denying our climate is changing won't lead to a Government who will deal with those problems.

Disappointed he hasn't moved of X too, though far more pissed off the Government continues to prop up Musk's cesspit. Taxpayers money pays for Ministers and Departments to manage numerous X profiles. I deeply resent my taxes funding hate.

Shame David Attenborough's birthday fell so close to polling day. It makes the many fulsome tributes to his wisdom feel a bit hollow when masses of Brits are voting for parties who would scrap climate targets and burn more fossil fuels.

It's not that unusual in London. Croydon, Lewisham, Newham and Tower Hamlets also have them. There are about 10 more around England too (and the various multi-authority mayors on top).

The Hackney Mayor vote wasn't even particularly close. Huge swing too as in 2023, Labour took 50% of the vote to the Green's 24% The Council elections are going to be interesting.
Results showing Green Party won 47% of the vote compared to Labour's 35%
