I've bought tickets to see the new Ghosts movie! At a drive-through cinema! In West Horsley Place - where they film the show! Should be a fun night.

There is some conversion software you can buy but it’s pricey and I’d use it so rarely it’s not worth having. Luckily they also sent me a PDF so I’ll have to just reverse engineer it from that.

A client sent me an old Quark file this week and I had absolutely no way of opening it. That’s showbiz, I guess.

I still maintain that Indesign does something similar somewhere but no one has found it yet…

I remember when Titan migrated to Indesign (in 2006 maybe?) and we all had lessons in it. I felt like they’d have to prise Quark out of my cold dead hands, but then they said you could control PSD layers in Indesign and I was a convert.

Watching Carrie. So, I knew schools in the US had lockdown drills (my kids school here does, too,) but are they really that intense..?! With gunshot FX and actors with fake guns breaking into classrooms?!

I've no idea if it's true but someone once told me Jeffrey Archer wrote his novels by first writing the whole plot as a sentence. Then two sentences. Then a paragraph, then 5000 words, then 10,000 and so on, ballooning outwards from a single point. Always stayed with me for some reason.

The electric snakes in Doc Savage: Man of Bronze. I used to go to bed every night and see them at the foot of my bed - until I worked out it was the filament from my bedside lamp momentarily burned into my retina as I turned it off.

Some great photos of good dogs here: www.theguardian.com/artanddesign... Sadly, mine didn’t make the cut.

I had a parents evening at my youngest's secondary school the other week and there were loads of AI posters and even AI 'art' on the walls. I asked him and he said all the kids take the piss out of them because they look so rubbish.

Really enjoying Silent Hill Townfall but the town is so beautifully realised it is having the weird effect of making me want to buy a holiday home there.

Just learnt that Virginmedia is doing away with all their email addresses, meaning the one I’ve had for 25 years will become defunct unless I pay £65/year to some new company they’re outsourcing to. So that’s going to be fun to extrapolate from my life.

Yeah, I’m self-employed too, so she sees me faffing about and keeping my own hours. Thankfully my wife has a proper job with long hours so she gets some idea of a regular work ethic!

Yeah, my daughter is on a degree at Manchester Met and they really take the ‘full time’ part of the course pretty loosely. It’s going to come as a shock when she gets a full time job!

Just watched the first episode of S2 of The Paper and, as is often the way with sitcoms, it seems to have really found its feet this time around. Some proper laughs in there.

Thanks, man! I’ve had a few dream jobs in my time - a book about Spielberg, one on Lynch and one about Douglas Adams. Now I can cross 2000 AD off the list too.

Well well! Look what's been announced. It was an absolute pleasure and honour to design this book for 2000 AD. I'm a long time reader of the comic (I picked up my first prog in the early 80s) and it was a real trip down memory lane pulling it all together with @mysterypickles.bsky.social. Buy it!

People blaming the gov for not putting a cap on political donations but I’m not sure how these massive payments (and make no mistake: they are payments - for future services) from dodgy crypto investors will play with the public. They may well prove to be a bit of a poisoned chalice for Reform.

If you’ll just allow me a brief Jeremy Clarkson-style rant: the road works around my way at the moment are FUCKING ridiculous. They’ve had all the summer holidays to dig up the roads they dug up just before the summer holidays again, but no - they wait until the schools have gone back.

I think I have a bit of hyperacusis - I'm hyper sensitive to weird sounds. I often find myself pacing the house trying to locate a noise no one else can hear, or lie awake at night because someone is having a party four streets away. Living here would literally finish me.
