I don't know about where you are, but the weather suddenly feels so different today. The sky is greyer. Ive got so used to waking up to sunny, warm days. It's seems months since it last felt like this.

Yet its important you understand why as it doesn’t mean it’s bad to fix. In fact right now if you’re on the Price Cap (unless you’re on prepay) you should be able to get a cheap fix (do compare), pay less straight away and prevent the predicted price hikes.

So in the third year the pension would just increase by the 2.5% inflation (not the 5% growth of average earnings)
1161
Martin Lewis @martinlewis.moneysavingexpert.com · 01/10/2026
E.g. If inflation was 4%, & average earnings growth 2% in each of the first two years then in year three inflation was 2.5% & average earnings 5%. The State Pension over the three years would rise 10.5% just due to inflation link – higher than the 9% total growth in average earnings since the start.

NB Read this after you’ve watched & understood the video… For belt & braces, it’s worth noting, in some situations, a year of average earnings higher than inflation (or 2.5%) wouldn’t increase the State Pension by more than inflation (or 2.5%).

Pension triple lock: what's REALLY happening. There’s a huge amount of misunderstanding out there. My must-watch mini-briefing I hope keeps it as simple as possible, so you can see how it’d likely roughly really work. As for is it good or bad… that’s your decision, not mine.

ENERGY PRICE CHANGE DAY. On monthly direct debit without a working smart meter? Submit a reading in next day or two. - On price cap, its up 3.6% today - On a fix, VAT scrapping means elec's 4.8% cheaper A reading ensures you're not billed for too much use at the higher rate.

The markets expect four UK base rate rises within the next year. So interest rates are volatile and on the up. Millions have mortgage deals ending, if that’s you, this is a key timing tip to talk to a mortgage broker about. Courtesy of a @thismorningitv.bsky.social phone-in.

If the triple lock on pensions will be scrapped. The 1st priority is to fix Pension Credit - the top up for the lowest earning pensioners to give them a basic minimum income. Shamefully many 100,000s of the poorest pensions still miss out on what they're entitled to.

You can’t leave a pension in your will. You need to tell the pension provider or trustees who you want the money to go to if you die, it’s done via a nomination form or expression of wishes form. Make sure yours is done and up to date. Clip courtesy of @thismorningitv.bsky.social

I'm afraid it's now predicted the energy Price Cap will rise 24% in January. The Cap applies to all firms' standard tariffs (bar in N. Ireland), so if you're not on a fix or special deal, you, like most people, are on it.

News. It's likely the State Pension will rise by 3.9% next April based on the rise in average earnings that has just been published. This'd take the full new State Pension it to just over £13,000, yet the tax free personal allowance is frozen at £12,570.
