This morning at the edge of the Woody End, Frodo is resolved not to lead his friends into danger, but Sam is likewise determined never to leave him. The contrast of Pippin singing and dancing in the meadow, showing what is natural to hobbits, is so poignant. What a scene! #Tolkien

I Sit Beside the Fire and Think is my favorite poem by Tolkien about "journey's end". As the aging Bilbo sang it in Rivendell, he gave it a contemplative air; recalling past events in sorrow while anticipating returning loved ones. Love the use of seasons to mark passing times. #TolkienTrewsday

This is so cool. In 1967 a young LOTR fan started translating The Adventures of Tom Bombadil into runes. Then he sent his book to JRRT to make sure he got them right. Tolkien looked through & wrote back that he had indeed.
