I always love seeing cacti when Im out in the field. This one is less common than prickly pear and that makes it a nice treat. Im pretty sure its Echinocereus viridiflorus, the nylon hedgehog cactus

With colleagues across ornithological societies and led by Nathan #Thayer, Ashley #Dayer, and Dai #Shizuka, I'm happy to share this first publication from some collaborative research we began in 2022 to study the role of #belonging in #ornithology: lnkd.in/gYGQzHer.

I recently got to travel through the finger lakes in New York and I couldn’t simply walk past the non-native and #invasive species I saw. You’ll have to excuse the blurriness though.

Got to visit Devil’s Tower recently. This view is from a trail I had not been on before and I’m glad I stumbled upon it!

Our study published in Biological Invasions quantifies the negative effects of invasive plants on bird diversity. We found that herbaceous invasives and those with non-endozoochoric dispersal significantly decrease bird richness and abundance. Full paper here: link.springer.com/article/10.1...

Bird responses to plant invasions are shaped by dispersal syndrome and historical disturbance: a meta-analysis - Biological Invasions
Biological invasions significantly impact biodiversity by altering ecosystem attributes, potentially leading to species loss and environmental homogenization. These changes reduce habitat heterogeneit...

Here's another example: "likes" outnumber "reposts" by 3:1. We The People... are the algorithm here at #BlueSky. We've got to normalize reposting over merely liking, or this place is never going to level-up to something like #ScienceTwitter once was. #Repost #Repost=Like #WeAreTheAlgorithm
