Do you have ivy bees? Quite distinctive recent colonists to the country.

No doubt lots of people in prison costing thousands each have adhd and ended up there after wrongly being told they were useless from an early age and just playing the role they were given as its easier than challenging long held victorian ideas

How about looking at it the other way round? That for years 'the system' failed people. If kids could not learn by sitting still in rows and keeping quiet they were labelled disruptive, stupid and naughty and rather than giving them a different learning route they were excluded or neglected?

I doubt anyone wants 'benefits', help and understanding are more important but its far easier to just post a stupid comment

Really unhelpful click baity headline, please do better. I am watching BBC breakfast item on this and the detail it is far from what is implied here.

Its ok, looked at a few books and how pinnate the leaves are is main thing, wish I had known and photographed some. Also ridges on the twig, which seems to make this vitalba

I love these. Pointed one out to someone a few years ago who was then very confused trying to find it in a book using the old name I remembered

The other group are threatening like the group of masked men on the streets some weeks ago. Not sure what happened to them.

No don't buy it. There is a difference between scary looking men outside a mosque and frail old people on a protest. I would be quite happy to walk past one group and maybe even engage in discussion with them (if I thought might be misguided or missing some info)

Noticed quite a few clematis in urban wasteland environments. Assumed these were vitalba but later remembered another one, flammula? Cant remember the differences #WildFlowerID

Heat pump is on but I do need some replacement t shirts to sit around in instead of the tatty faded wildlife charity ones I have. Luckily I ordered some earlier this week

Other kits do I think allow adjustable angle. In the end octopus was cheaper than most. Also my site can be very windy so this system looked (to me) more stable in high winds.

I had another thought. (and in hindsight I wish I had known about your advice site) My original idea was to use these panels for extra power in winter (already have panels on house roof). To make best use of winter sun the angle of panels would be greater as winter sun lower in the sky.

Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Also moving the suggested placement of the invertor can help as the connectors from it to the panels are quite long.

Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I just measured it, yes 5m. It's more that the video suggests placing panels in the best position to capture sunlight when in reality you are limited by where the outdoor socket is. Ideally mine would have been somewhere slightly different.

Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The length of the mains connector cable concerns me a little on all of these kits. Though my set up was very close to the outdoor socket a lot of cable is used creating a safe path to avoid trip hazards.

Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Just made sure mains cable would safely reach outdoor socket. App is ok, mainly need it see everything is working. As the space was limited I did one panel at a time to make sure there would be enough room to get thru to the garden. Easy enough to reposition one section before adding the other

Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Had a few small issues, probably due to wanting to get on with it and not following instructions. Forgot to take cable clips off coiled connector on back of panel before attaching it. Had to take back off and and attach extension cables for invertor After that fairly simple.

plug-in Solar Panels arrived yesterday morning. Put it all together in the afternoon. This morning generated just over 400W @ 10.30, more than enough to cover background electricity use of fridge, tv. Should be a bit more output when sun moves around to south @octopus.energy

I am still wondering if it's worth losing my job by pointing out I was obviously correct years ago for [list of reasons] as I could then let it go and being right seems more important than having no wage next month

Fascinating. recording plants yesterday I was confused by the various woodland names showing up on the map as the boundaries were not clear. Later on an old map I saw that there had been small fields separating the woods in the past . Bullock Storth was one of the wood names

Just seeing things I have heard of but not seen before like Buckwheat in the city centre yesterday, and Dwarf Mallow at the hospital last week. Unexpected 'new' things in unexpected places are lovely

He also ordered a new RCD for fuse board ready for the plug in solar supply. Plug in Solar is a great idea. For me it should help power the heat pump this winter, lower bills and mean less reliance on gas generated grid power. Just be safe people, get a properly installed connection to plug in to

@octopus.energy Just watched the plug in solar piece from link on app. Love the idea of it but think showing an indoor type socket as an illustration of where to plug in is very misleading. Electrician installed an outdoor socket (different look) for me a few days ago so I can plug in

Also many bees are solitary species, working by themselves to create and provision a nest cell for offspring that they never meet 🐝

Also what possible solutions are there and costs involved with each proposal.

Yes many will be asylum seekers, others maybe wanting a better future and possibly some fleeing justice in another country. How many can the country take is a legitimate question. Saying numbers are down X% isn't as helpful as it seems. Actual numbers and how much person costs more helpful.

The worry is that while we can and do discuss who did what, who's fault, etc. People arrive, misinformation is widespread and something very unpleasant is happening in this country. we have people arriving here illegally, kind of queue jumping and having to be dealt with at some expense
110
Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
Expense = human concept in way you are using it. They are nothing like us - do they cause harm to other lifeforms on a massive scale or ruin their own eco systems? It just looks and seems wrong to me and I will go with my gut on that and believe they aren't nothing - basically a rock
000
Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
With a proper system put in place to apply for asylum with checks in place. Not sure how even then another blackmarket system to get around the checks or create a good backstory could be avoided but it could be better than what we have
011
Roger Shaw @marmaladefly.bsky.social · 08/09/2026
on the streets. If we want a sensible solution all parties should try and get together to find a sensible solution rather than scoring points. Not sure why the system can't be that if you arrive illegally then you will not be granted the right to stay but sent back.

I don't like the pick a side version of politics & discussion and the fallout from it. People risking their lives and paying money to get here isn't great. Its legitimate for people to be worried about who these people are and ask that without being labelled 'bad'. The answer is not masked people

The picture makes me sad in the same way seeing sad bears in cages with tubes to extract bile does. Can we excuse it coz we 'need' it and if its cheap and 'harmless' why invest in finding an alternative with our evolved brains. Do we value life or just like us life.
