Pre-movie scran and a pint (unusually for me, lager!) with the youngest, at Maggie Fu's, New Brighton. Decent enough green Thai curry.

Celebratory solo pint in The Sportsman's after Tranmere's 1-0 win versus Shrewsbury in the EFL Trophy. Notable, as it's the first time I've been able to book a 'Senior' ticket - £7. Not a great game, but a win is a win, and we resume the league games this Saturday at home to Walsall.

Always good to remind everyone that the cuddly Libdems enabled the Tories and their vicious austerity measures, which has lead directly to the rise of right wing parties in this country.

Our Rebellion! exhibition opens at the Williamson Art Gallery in Birkenhead on 23 October and will run until 20 February. Here is something about the project.
Poster with fluorescent pink header and yellow background. The words on the poster read:
Rebellion!
 About the project
 Rebellion! is a social documentary
 photography project which explores
protest as an essential part of the
 cultural identity of Great Britain.
 The project includes photographs and
testimony from protesters, as well as
from those who may have been targeted
 by the protests.
It explores the social issues around
protest, such as the fracturing of
 social cohesion in blighted post-
 industrial communities which fuel
 dissatisfaction with the status quo.
Rebellion! has been developed in part
as a response to the introduction of
 draconian anti-protest legislation by
 successive governments and the
 imprisonment of peaceful protesters.
The project makes no judgement about
the merits of the various protests
 shown here.

Let me get this right: if you're a retired vicar and peacefully hold up a sign opposing genocide, you're a terrorist. But if 1200 morons put on balaclavas and close half of Dover to stop people *escaping* genocide, police "constructively engage." Is that it? www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2026...

Ultimately she ended up asset-stripping an entire country and squandering the money to buy votes. Thatcher’s policies of privatisation have created the problems we now have over housing and homelessness, energy, water etc. She was a neoliberal fundamentalist.

Millions waiting for social housing. Millions in temporary accommodation. The money is not the problem. The government is a currency issuer. It can fund public housing without "finding" anything. The real question is whether we build it. #MMT #Economics #UKPolitics

Why did Britain spend the decades after the financial crisis repeatedly stabbing itself for no good reason, with both hands? Because all the right sort of chaps decided that was better and more in their interest than e.g. admitting the Thatcherite consensus was fucked and needed to be replaced.

The best part is, I recall hearing a senior Tory grandee - I forget which - telling Times Radio that Cameron and Osborne picked austerity as their great project not because it was smart or necessary, but because they needed a great project and that felt like a Tory thing to do.
In the spirit of people finally noticing the consequences of austerity on local government now the dam has finally burst, are the early 2010s one of the most pointlessly self-destructive moments ever for the modern British State?

Late Blairism was hardly good either and the current malaise was already seeping into the foundations, but the Coalition and subsequent Conservative govts basically set a ticking timebomb for local authorities having to salami-slice their budgets to meet legal requirements.

Rather than spending money responsibly in a way that kept on top of problems, cuts have allowed them to grow and fester to the point they are so big and complex to solve that it'll cost far more than was ever saved by austerity.
