3 nurses and my wife asked if I wanted help with a shower. It quickly became apparent that they actually do think that I ...smell bad? That's not how that dream was supposed to go 🙁 Upside is that the surgery was successful and complications are being addressed

Sure. I'm a huge fan of listening. A LOT. Don't even worry about figuring out what they're doing yet. Just listen to a ton of what you really enjoy. Find some solos you love and learn to sing them. Stuff like that. It might not seem like you're doing much, but you are

2024 was very...interesting (?) and 2025 is guaranteed to start off the same way. That said, I have big plans for the New Year and I can't wait to share all the new adventures with you. Here's wishing a happy, productive and artistic 2025 to everyone! #composerlife #jazz #focaldystonia #filmmusic

I haven't really posted any of the music from my last album as a Hornist, so here's one of my favorite tracks from At What Age featuring poet EJ Antonio open.spotify.com/track/2ekQIt...

At one point I was working on a project to score Oscar Micheaux silent film Within Our Gates, so I spent some time doing character sketches. Here's a bit of one for the main character, played by Evelyn Preer. The whole thing is on my YouTube which is in my bio... #composer #filmmusic #blackfilm

Hi Randy! Yep. It took me a while to figure out that what was frustrating me was the distance between my musical thinking and my (non-existent) chops on any other instrument. Trying to be a bit gentler with myself this time around

Wow! Thank you! I do love that lush Hollywood sound (among other things)

As for practice materials, John Clark’s book is a great way to start getting around the instrument fluently. Feel free to message me with any questions. I’m happy to talk about jazz horn all day!

Newer players include: Giovanni Hoffer Pau Molto Victor Prado Shanyse Strickland I know I’m forgetting some people, but that’s a good start! I'm sure more folks will pop into my head over the next day or so and I'm sure other people will have suggestions of players I might not have heard of, yet.

I’m assuming you’re “a mature aged student” on Horn, right? Good for you! Welcome! For listening, you have to check out (in no particular order): Julius Watkins Vincent Chancey John Clark Tom Varner Willie Ruff David Amram Arkady Shilkloper Jim Rattigan Rick Todd

Hi! I do have suggestions. I'll do a little looking around to make sure I still have my sources correct and post some things for you later today. Thanks for the follow and the kind words

Found it! I couldn't remember the name at first. I'm not much of a gamer, so I mostly watched it like a movie but I kept thinking it'd be fun to score something like this or a digital novel... telltale.com/the-wolf-amo...

The most important thing in writing is to finish. A finished thing can be fixed. A finished thing can be published. A finished thing can be made into a movie. An unfinished thing is just a dream. And dreams fade if you don't hold on tight enough. So finish the thing.

but developed Embouchure Dystonia and had to stop playing back in 2011. Been working on rehab for a long time, but seem to be stuck. I'm still optimistic I'll return to Horn playing soon, though. In the meantime, I'm trying to learn a couple of other instruments because I really miss playing music!

A bit of an introduction (since I'm actually spending time over here now). I'm a media composer (I do sometimes get the occasional commission, though). I had a long career playing French Horn, mostly in jazz and improvised music #jazz #filmmusic #frenchhorn #film #composer #jazzhorn #indiefilm

A while back I "played" (watched) an online game that had fairytale characters living in the real world. The Big Bad Wolf was the sheriff and was very busy solving a murder mystery. I REALLY want to score something like that...
