Attention! @doctorsofbc.bsky.social priorities: doctorsofbc.ca/advocacy/202... If parties say anything about health, it will likely cover these four areas (specialists, primary care, ER, rural). Where they'll differ is their understanding of each and real commitments to fix (vs. soundbites).

Since I know @bcgreens.bsky.social aren't on the X hellscape anymore, want to make sure you see this. Fed a bunch of stuff to Sonia Furstenau last time and Camille Currie and I worked closely together. How about it, want to talk healthcare accountability again?

As always, I extend an offer to ALL parties to confidentially review and provide feedback on their draft plans. Have done this for members of Greens, Conservatives, and CentreBC in the past. I hope to publicly review published plans (or lack thereof) as they become available.

In this election, health care MUST matter. Hoping EVERY PARTY details: ✳️ Mechanisms for robust public accountability in: 🔹primary care attachment & access 🔹ER closures, wait times 🔹specialist waits ✳️ Clear action plans on: 🔹HPOA, HCW autonomy 🔹health authority bloat

Under FPTP, there's no other option. Most of the people involved are relatively pragmatic and want to do the right thing. They're able to compromise and put the needs of BCians first. At least I hope so. We can't afford political egos to get in the way any longer. 3/3

Long-term, there MUST be a unification between that group and @centrebc.ca. Whatever it might eventually be called and under what leadership. BC voters need ONE common-sense, pragmatic, non-ideological option pushing fiscally-responsible, results-based accountable govt. 2/3

What Milobar et al are doing makes sense. A group of already-elected MLAs sitting together in the upcoming session as a party (with benefits thereof) is easier and better optics than unifying under a party e.g. @centrebc.ca that doesn't have a seat. For now. However… 1/3

If you were in charge of an organization's overhead costs… One year you were 18% over budget ($4M). The next 36% over ($11M). The next 55% over ($19M). What would your boss say to you? Would you still have a job? Under Eby's NDP and its bloated health authorities, no problem.

BC's UPCC's spend $52M a year (31.4% of total budget) on overhead. That's 55% over budget—at a time when they're spending less than expected on doctors and nurses. 11 UPCCs spend over double their budget on overhead.

All hospital emergency rooms in Fraser Health have stopped reporting estimated waiting times (via the edwaittimes.ca site). Comment from MOH or Fraser Health about this? The public's right to be informed on the state of our health system must be protected.

And that excess is growing larger every year. Nobody is responsible for managing the finances of those sites, let alone ensuring needed care is being delivered. Government health care doesn't need to be ineffective. But this is. Where's the outrage?

It ranges from $25 to well over $100 per patient visit—far more than a family doctor at a regular clinic charges MSP for the entire visit (including overhead costs). That's a lot of money that could be used to improve front-line care.

Look what Nova Scotia manages to PUBLICLY report about it's primary care waiting list. In BC? We get nothing. To get any data, we can wait for cherry-picked scraps from MOH or wait months for FOI requests. Widespread lack of transparency is enabling health system failure in BC.

Something akin to what I did with my recent report on UPCCs needs to happen with PCNs, CHCs, FNPCCs, and all the other initiatives - analysis of actual results vs. resources. Actual accountability and transparency is still very poor. You guys have the potential to do far better.

The CARGA reports were frankly quite weak and too filled w/ cherry-picked data. NDP got away with a lot, things like ignoring net attachment and other meaningful patient-centred metrics vs. what they wanted to share. Have a peek at healthdatabc.ca, particularly the bits on HCR and UPCCs.

In particular, look at this stat, the biggest reason people are looking for a new family doctor—they've lost access to the one they have. This is the stat BC wants people to believe doesn't exist. Because people are always attached, never unattached. Right?

BC Greens used to be THE strongest party on health. They understood what was going on and how to fix it. Did the hard work, no cheap slogans. Now? If we hear anything, it's about CHCs (attached). Which I like, but I wonder how much of it is that they use the word "community."

Maybe it's time to start looking again at some serious policies to back up your overall positioning. As I doubt the Cons are going to step up on health accountability, I hope someone does. Need to see more than an anti-billionaire dance party. Reach out… let's fix this.

I know there are people involved (or there were anyway) who understood the nuances of pay models, health authority mismanagement, funding, govt influence on DoBC, how private/public actually works in health, etc. Who knew the questions to ask to hold govt to account.

Mark Roseman @markroseman.com · 21/06/2026
I don't get the impression that the current folks driving the messaging understand healthcare at all, and are just trying to fit everything into a simplified anti-billionaire framework. Healthcare isn't simple. And just saying "CHC" isn't enough to fix things. Accountability?

Most discussion on mental health and psychiatry focuses on the vitally important issues related to involuntary care. But that's not what most people who need help deal with. The "system" is failing them too. You deserve an honest discussion of how, why, and what you can do.

Oh, and that excess spending on overhead, above what was budgeted? That makes up 11% of the total spending at UPCCs. If that money were freed up, it could pay for about 50 full-time family physicians at independent clinics, providing real care to patients.

Mark Roseman @markroseman.com · 11/06/2026
In what kind of organization would this happen? You go 18% over budget on overhead. Nobody notices or says anything. The next year you go 36% over budget on overhead. Problem right? Nope. The next year you go 55% over budget on overhead. What's next?
