mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 06/10/2026Timidity has been the curse of British politics for ages. If you study the achievements of the 1945-51 labour government, it is astonishing that it achieved so much. Our whole perception of time seems to have shifted since then & I wonder if it was the urgency of wartime persisting into the '50s. 011
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 06/10/2026The risk for @uklabour.bsky.social is that if they chicken-out and don't have rejoin as a manifesto campaign, the @conservatives.bsky.social just might. Far fetched perhaps but with such a polling advantage it would be foolish to ignore. 011
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 05/10/2026Do you need, or currently benefit from, the use of a tax haven to manage your cash? If not, Brexit is costing you a lot of money & you need to reverse it ASAP If you don't want to, you are either financially illiterate or just have an irresistable need to show charity to your billionaire betters. 011
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 05/10/2026There, right there, is why Britain can't have nice things. Room reading not her strong suit, I'll wager. 021
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026Hiring more people with the incentive that they can personally keep 1% of any unpaid tax recovered would be my suggestion. I suspect the recovery rate would skyrocket! 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 04/10/2026A simple test to check whether Britain going back into the EU is good or bad: Do you need a tax haven to manage your cash? If not, rejoining the EU will be good for you. If yes, keeping those saying 'no' deluded enough that they think being out of the EU is good for them is your only option. 021
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026If they do, they should have to share a cell. #CruelAndUnusualPunishment 021
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Getting into local government was the best thing Deform could have done. Closely voter facing with maximum responsibility but zero budget and lots of statutory obligations they couldn't wriggle out of coulpled with zero experience and competence. Marvellous! 011
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I clearly have the winning number. All Bridge have to do is choose it! 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 02/10/2026The one and only real reason for Brexit. Hiding in plain sight for 10 years. Funny how the tax haven using owners of the British media failed to promote it in their pre-referendum analysis, isn't it? 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Indeed. Living in Birmingham & the Black Country in the early '80s where the policies of Thatcher's first term wiped-out an industrial ecosystem that had kept the area as the most prosperous outside London for 2 centuries. Not all of us spent the '80s driving around Knightsbridge in Porsche 911s. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 02/10/2026Remarkable that we who lived & worked in the 1970s have a remarkably different lived experience from those who didn't & comment on that period today. I remember that time as good money, secure jobs, full pubs and public services that still functioned. The Awful Thatcher destroyed that entire world. 101
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 02/10/2026This is going to bring a return to 'Give unto Caesar what is Caesar's', isn't it? These herberts want you to join their invisible friend in the sky club to keep your job? Sure, I believe in your excellent religion. Yes indeedy. Yep. [Not too bright these chaps, are they?] 010
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 01/10/2026I'm so old I can confirm that all these things were invented way before 1979. We definitely had all 3 when I was growing-up in the 1960s but then remembering the 1960s when you were actually there has always been a little questionable. 120
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 30/09/2026...or 'In 30 years it will still be terrible for all of you mere plebs but I will have died still in full possession of my tax haven bank account.' 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Carney & Macron tell it as it is but the herbert voters of Britain prefer to believe Garage because, in their fact-free world, he drinks a pint and tells them it's OK to hate forriners. One hope I have for Bus Burnham is that he can cut though with at least some of those taken-in by the Brexit con. 021
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Experts, eh? Mark Carney called it absolutely spot-on. As Governor of the Bank of England & a highly qualified economist he could, and did, accurately predict exactly what would happen to Britain if it left the EU. The herberts preferred Garage & his goons' fantasy. Who's laughing now, I wonder? 021
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 30/09/2026Harsh. Also: Reliant Robin, surely? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reliant...en.wikipedia.orgReliant Robin - Wikipedia 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Little Reg[ina] (After their walk on the wild side, he's become she) thinks 'Free at last - next stop Norway!' 010
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Absolutely this. ...and it caused Theresa May's downfall, when she was accused of proposing the 'dementia tax', that she couldn't bring herself to outline, to a largely ignorant voting public, what the current position is without inciting a riot. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026When does the ownership of the locomotives and rolling stock return to public ownership, I wonder? 001
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I've always relied on the phrase 'What would Profumo do?' as my guide in life. Yep. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 26/09/2026In other words, we've dillied, we've dallied, we've dallied and we've dillied, we've lost our way and can't find our way home. There a song in there somewhere. 010
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 25/09/2026As always, don't listen to what they say, watch what they do. #ReformAreNotYourFriends 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Spode addresses the ninja cosplaying postal workers? 001
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Let's hope their tax haven set steer them away from destroying their precious Brexit fiddles and leave the stage wide open for a @uklabour.bsky.social victory. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026If it won them the next election why wouldn't they? 100
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Bus Burnham's biggest incentive is that if he doesn't adopt the rejoin EU policy in his manifesto, the @conservatives.bsky.social , seeing the huge electoral advantage of this direction, just might. 220
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Excellent idea. Here's another: Let the HMRC staff keep a percentage of the currently uncollected tax they manage to bring in. As an incentive, I suspect it would be hard to beat and would probably remove any recruitment challenges HMRC face. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Holiday over - welcome back to blighty with: Couldn't get out of the long-stay parking. M25 anti-clockwise closed at the A10 junction. A12 closed for 7[!] jns inc. a detour with a missing sign that had us looping infinitely. Left Heathrow at 23:00 - arrived in Darkest Suffolk at 03:05 Marvellous. 010
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 20/09/2026One does wonder how far these herberts are from issuing party insignia arm-bands. #VoteSmarter 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 19/09/2026Finally a @uklabour.bsky.social government is in power with a huge majority. Bus Burnham needs to realise that they are actually in charge and can change this. Leadership 101: Inaction = Endorsement. If you don't endorse this state of affairs then act or you join the list of those who condone it. 011
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 18/09/2026The celeb version is less problemetic for me because they are all wise to the premise. The 'regular' show I find exeptionally distasteful. People rewarded for behaving apallingly as entertainment sticks in my craw. It normalises in the TV world what is already over present in public life - awful. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Bus Burnham needs to stop the insanity & declare an Article 49 application to join the EU. The herberts will go ballistic - let 'em. They're outnumbered 2:1 by those who understand the true need to rejoin & the only real losers will be the tax haven set who got us into this mess in the 1st place. 094
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Darkest Suffolk as free of buses as it is of mobile phone signal. Perhaps someone could fit mobile mobile phone masts to a new bus fleet and the two problems would be solved. I have low hopes. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Just reinforcing the assumption that Brexit was just the start of the journey to return Britain to a toffs & serfs society. No thanks. #ReformAreNotYourFriends 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Going ot on a limb here but might it be that we rural types are not on the mains gas netwok? Trying to economise on a fuel you've never had access to seems an unlikely outcome. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 16/09/2026They need to learn from other industries that have been down this road before. Take the best regulatory processes and industry self examination/improvement techniques of the aviation and nuclear communities would be a good starting point. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Currently experiencing 'The Footage Detectives' on Talking Pictures TV for the first time. Mike Read and Noel Cronin presenting archive film and reading out viewers letters [Answers on a postcard please...] on a zero budget basis. Suddenly struck me - it's 'Waynes World' for pensioners. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Meanwhile, in entirely unrelated news, someone in the Kremlin is dancing with delight as his cunning plan comes together. 000
mark norris @marknuclearman.bsky.social · 14/09/2026Bus Burnham needs to pull his finger out and make this @uklabour.bsky.social policy before the @conservatives.bsky.social adopt it for themselves. Raw electoral logic dictates that it has to be in the manifesto unless you think the Brexit herberts vote is going to win you the election [it won't]. 010
