I want to delete all of my Meta accounts. I have no FOMO when it comes to FB and IG, but I KNOW I’ll end up with another marketing job the second I hit delete and remove the apps from my phone. Meta no longer lets you post to a business account without a personal account.😒

The power was out for almost seven hours this morning. While power outages are annoying and inconvenient, I was actually pretty excited to make our breakfast on a barbecue in the rain. Since we couldn’t make coffee, I had a pumpkin so latte delivered while I was cooking. 🍳☕️

Not even two weeks into the new school year and the kid already brought home the plague. Today, the rest of the family started showing signs. Luckily, I was healthy for my job interview yesterday. 🤒 🤧

BTW the cost of all these tests added up to more than $3000. Since it’s untreatable at my age, I don’t need to be good at math to tell you that the cost of the official diagnosis is not worth it. I’ll just give up my dream of being a physicist and make art instead…like I’ve been doing all along.

I feel I still deserve to be angry. Teachers are supposed to help us succeed in life. Instead they chose to yell, embarrass and put the blame on a child rather than consider there might be a problem, or least suggest a tutor that specializes in learning difficulties. </rant>

Nothing I can do about it now. My elementary school is a pile of rubble and houses have been built over it. Most of those teachers are long dead and/or retired. I’ve lived with it this far. I’ve worked, started a family & received two university arts degrees (to avoid math at all costs.)

I’m angry that this could have been treated when I was young enough for it to make a difference. The only upside to this is I know what kind of hell this feels like, and I will do everything in my power to make sure my kids don’t have to go through it too.

They would make me talk to “councillors” because I was shy and wouldn’t put up my hand to answer questions (when I knew my answers were wrong). I’m angry. I’m beyond angry. I’m 45 years old now, and made a lot of life choices to avoid having to do math.

Something was obviously wrong and they did nothing. They told my parents I was just lazy and it was my fault for not paying attention in class. This could have been treated! I did everything I could to avoid going to class just to avoid the embarrassment.

This isn’t a new disorder. It’s rare, but it’s been known about for decades longer than I’ve been alive, which leads me to ask: Why the fuck did every math teacher accuse me of being lazy for “not getting it” rather than refer me to a child psychologist to get tested?

Dyscalculia: What It Is, Causes, Symptoms & Treatment

<rant> Today I found out one of my kids has dyscalculia. It’s like dyslexia for math. Not the end of the world, she is young enough that it can be treated. What angers me is that after talking to the doctor about it, it’s pretty clear that I have it too, and it can’t be treated in adults.
