Examples include: * migrating code with AI vs using OpenRewrite * asking agent to verify code against coding guidelines in a skill vs using linters, ArchUnit * asking agent to run with coverage (IntelliJ IDEA can do that)
011
Marit van Dijk @maritvandijk.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Ooh, that is a very good point. But: would you be able to integrate the deterministic tools into the workflow somehow? (e.g. run the tests, do the linting, etc)
110
Marit van Dijk @maritvandijk.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Omg, I'm so sorry... Yes, I do think mutation testing is extremely useful, especially for people who have the agents write the tests. Thank you for your work!
110
Marit van Dijk @maritvandijk.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Oh yeah, I'm specifically talking about use cases where perfectly good tools exist: migrating code with OpenRewrite, verifying architecture with ArchUnit, using linters for code style, etc.
020
Marit van Dijk @maritvandijk.bsky.social · 24/09/2026
Recently, I keep seeing examples of people using AI for things where perfectly good deterministic tools are available. While I understand AI is the new shiny tool, do we need to use it for everything? Especially if deterministic alternatives exist? What do you think?
